Hi all AF community. First grow, inherited a whole bunch of equipment that a good friend bought, then divorce and life stopped him from even setting it up, so I've done ton's of reading and learning and this is what I have setup.

-4x8x8 Secret Jardin tent
-2x Air cooler hoods with 1000w HPS bulbs.
-2x 600w/750w/1000w ballasts
-Carbon scrubbed hooked up to fan to light hoods exhausted out my chimney stack, 6" duct all the way along
-4x 4 foot T5 HO bulbs positioned in the corners of the tent for side lighting.
-Passive intake keeping temps under light at a steady 78F.

It came with seeds too, Pyramid Auto Feminized New York City, so I germed them and planted last night, 10 seeds in 5gal pots, drilled holes in the bottom, drip trays underneath, organic hardware store soil, made pH 6.5 tap water, treated with fish water conditioner to remove chloramine. The lights are about 2 feet above the buckets right now, should I go closer for the seedling. With the air cooled lights, I get no heat from the lights. I can place my hand directly under the light and feel no heat at all.

Currently set for 19/5 lighting schedule, T5's coming on about 15mins before the HPS's. I wired the HPS's to a new 220v breaker and the HO's and fan are wired to their own 120v breaker, proper gauge wire, etc, so should be good there.

Does everything seem good, and anyone have any experience with the strain I'm going with. They are mostly sativa from what I can tell via google, so would they grow a bit taller? Is 10 plants good for the size and lights?

I was thinking of keeping the lights at 600w and close for the seedling for now to keep power usage down, then maybe boost up to 750w when they start to get bigger, 1000w for flowering or something like that? Help bulb length by running them lower and my power bill. lol.

Any idea on the potential yield of this strain? Can I do some decent LST with this strain? I have a bunch of different nut's too, I'll post them when I go through that box. lol.

Excited to see some sprouts and get any info. Thanks.

Hi chickenhead and welcome to AFN,I have no ideas about what that strain is capable of but with all the gear you have the potential is there for an awesome harvest!!! Best part is it was inherited( does that mean free?),,anyway keep posting and the traffic to your journal will increase, lots of good people here to help you along,,,,even though the tent is 4x8x8 it might get crowded, maybe keep in mind that if you need to,get rid of the slow growers to free up some space and allow the rest to really open up ,also sativas tend to grow a little taller than indicas, peace out !!!

Thanks budelee. Just waiting for something to pop from the soil. lol. Guess it takes a few days and checking every 2 hours isn't going to do anything. I'll certainly try to keep up with updates and I'm sure problems I encounter.

I do also have a 4x4 tent and another 1000w light that I haven't setup yet, so if they get big I could throw that up in a pinch and move a couple over. See how it. First step was germinate and plant and get a sprout.

Btw, are you sure your water conditioner removes chloramine? I have that here, and I get bad reactions to chlorine.
So I drink bottled water. Not very ecological.

Yup. I used to breed all kinds of hard-to-breed dwarf shrimp in the aquarium world, so I'm pretty good with water at least. lol. The green world, we'll see.

I see a seed shell popping through one container. It's alive! lol. Should I be misting the pots around where I planted each day or to keep it moist or should I let it get dry?

I don't have any kids, but if I did, I still don't think I would check on them as much as I have the pots to see if anything new is sprouting. lol.

2nd one popped, no seed casing on it, already 2 little leaves.

FYI, how long would a sprout keeps it's seed casing on. The one that sprouted has a stem coming up about 3/4" out of the soil, but still has the casing on.

Another good tip/idea is to keep humidity in the higher % 's, vegging plants love it,when they get to middle/late flower take RH as low as u can,so if you don't already have them,temp/RH gauges ( digital or mechanical)are good to have, place one temp gauge just above the canopy to track temps at bud height for best monitoring

Now now bottom of the tent at the bucket level under the light, it's 41% humidity, and the top of the tent is about 45% out of the light. I can adjust my exhaust fans with the speed controller to get more out if I need, but that seems like a good level for now, I think.
