New Grower First ever grow, what went wrong with my seedling???

Hi guys!!!

I am really after advice after my first grow took a turn for the worst. I germinated my seedling in a peat pellet in a peat pot in a window sill grow container then transferred it to cupboard under 130w 6500k cfl with some outside light during the day also once it had a few very small leaves, watering every few days. At first it grew well producing the signs of leaves after sprouting in just a few days. By the 2nd week it stalled in growth and the bottom leaves started to turn yellow, i tried numerous things thinking maybe i was overwatering etc but with no prevail. Today i decided i would assess below the soil as i came to the conclusion the plant was about to die, turns out the stem sort had grown in abit of a loop and was quite dry just below the surface which i found really weird! Any advice would be great, keen to have another crack asap

hi and @James Brown small pots can sometimes dry out in a few hours,best bet is start it in the pot its gonna finish in

What kind of soil is that?

Seedling was jack herer fem!!

Soil was a store bought blood and bone mix with 35% perlite

Best advice I can give you is to get coco, best growing medium that always give you great result, I myself Nevers was able to get decent yield from soil even promix peatmoss soilless.. coco changed m'y life all your gonna need is basic nutes trio , calmag and ph meter. Your soil, looks like IT doesnt even have the 35% perlite you mentioned btw. Im a newbie myself but thats what worked for me

Yeah more Perlite and if they are not autos the cup is fine to start but somewhere on here, I'll try to find the link, there is a great guide on what stunted plants are and how to make a shorty by leaving them in the cup too long. 2 weeks is definitely at a point where it will start to stunt growth of the plant in a solo cup. The roots just run out of space

The solo cup should be only used for longer than the times mentioned in that post to keep plants intentionally small like for small grow space or stealth grow

As for growing coco you really need to be on top of your game with feedings and pH of feeding. I'm a little too chicken shit to do that yet and also you need to water more often. A lot more hands on than soil but these people's have it down here if you do decide to go that route
