Hello again AFN Time to start my first DWC grow! Really wanted to do an autoflower grow but I bought some Big Buddha Cheese seeds a few weeks ago so Didn't want to spend more money as its cost quite a bit to get started in hydro and I'm going to try add a hs1 to my tent as temps start to rise  will be continuing with Autos after this grow.

So my new line is

1 IWS oxypot with 1 spare for res change (it takes 14l up to the bottom of the netpot)
canna clay pebbles
root riot cubes
1 scrog net
1 x gnms0006
1 x 250w hps
5" rhino filter and extraction fan
passive intake
dehumidifier will be placed by passive intake during flower
2 x 6" clips fans for circulation
1 x 9" oscillating fan will now be under scrog for better air movement

So I've germed all 5 seeds for the best chance of success as this is my first time. They were first soaked for 24 hours in a glass with half strength take root. They were then put in paper towels soaked in full strength take root PH5.8 then placed in a heated propagator and low and behold this morning they all have at least a 5mm tap root. So I've just put 5 root riot cubes in a tub to soak with full strength take root, half strength grow a + b and 1/4 strength multi total PH5.8 EC 0.7 and will be placing the seeds in the cube and in the propagator in a few hours :coffee2:

here's a few pics of where i am so far. note the lid of my DWC bucket is suspended by the scrog so it makes it easier for res change.. hope it works lol

A few Noob questions of which i'm still unsure of are..

1. do the air pumps need to be above water level? the guy at the hydro shop said they do but i personally can't see why?

2. when i transfer the root riot into the net pot how far below the cube should water level be?

:dance2:set for the win mate .Good move going photo's too ,if you have any issues you can just veg longer to recover ,ideal for your 1st run.

1- pumps are better above water level just in case it breaks & the res could all siphon out onto your floor though the pump. Plus they are maybe a bit more efficient but that could be bollox !

2- Much debate on this one... I set the cube onto about an inch of pebbles & keep the water level an inch below the base of the net pot at the early stages .Others may disagree ,you can set the cube higher & have the water level touching the net pot too, but its a bit easier on the tiny 1st tap roots just below that imo.

couple other things bud .Maybe grab some bennies for a tea & look into making that .Could save you from disaster if things got funky in the res !.

Clean the pebbles (even boil them ) & give them a really good rinse in the shower to get rid of any dust before a soak in 5.6 ph water .This will keep rising so add another drop every hour or so to keep it there before using .

Also may want to keep them in the dome a bit longer as res temps are not great for tiny seedlings roots ,they prefer it warmer for a few days until they toughen up a bit :goodluck:

Good luck Lew ,the set ups very cool .Will have to rep ya laterz :Sharing One:

Very exciting, good luck with your first DWC adventure bro.

Thanks bro. Feels like I'm a completely new to growing again lol

Thanks for answering my questions bro and for the extra advice too. I was gonna ask about the clay pebbles as well but forgot earlier lol Think i will deffo have to put at least an inch of pebbles down first as these net pots built into the lids are just a bit too big if you ask me. Think I will definitely make my own buckets once i've had my use out of these. :Sharing One:

Just looking at my air pump which came with my oxy-pot. It's says it is 4l/minute so 240l/h is this enough when there is 15l of water in my res? Never thought about it to be fair

Not big enough bro .Id grab a hailia 20lpm supersilent ...or a 30lpm ? The 4lpm pump will be ok for the 1st week or so but then you will want to switch up & get the bucket fizzing !:goodluck:

May want to google "AIT Spider " air diffusers ,there cheap & Smerky's doing an awesome job using his :Sharing One:

Don't want to be pedantic, but it is Hailea, not hailia.... Just in case you go googling and can't find the hailia.... Lol

Cheers

Thanks for the reply bro I realised last night and just managed to get one ordered. So should be here tomorrow got one that 30lm. Feel a bit ripped off they sold the other pump In the package lol they must've seen me coming :peace:

Best of luck mate, love me some cheese, don't mean to sound stupid but are you doing all 5 seeds or just 1? :D
