Hey everyone, I just wanted to open this thread to discuss breeding with only one male and one female F1. Anything you want to bring to the table is welcome.
Now say I only have 2 F1 seeds of some really fine genetics. I know this to be true because the male and female used were of high quality. Let's say I get one male and one female. The female is everything I expected it to be. The male on the other hand has characteristics not to my liking. Poor Structure, Odd smell, etc...You could also look at this vice versa
Now most of us would simply behead the male or female and be done with it. I on the other feel their is still great value within that male and female's gene's that aren't being expressed. Variations that could very well pass on thru the first cross. Take in effect that every seed produced will express something new. Remember this an early stage cross F1. If it was F5 or above. It would probably be a different story. You really don't have much variation once you reached that plateau.
We now have our cross done and a ton of seeds to go thru. We go ahead and run these seeds. We find that male and female that best represents the desired traits we wanted and continue working the strain up to F5. Once one has selected the best of the best and worked it to F5 and up. You should in theory have the genes you wanted to be expressed more present.
I guess that's about it. I just wanted to share my feelings about F1's and only having a few seeds to work with at the start. Hope this helps someone out.
If you have anything to add feel free.
