New Grower F@#cking Airpots, How Do They Work!?

Iv been using Airpots now for 2 years, and iv found they work best with pure coco, as coco has that sponge like texture. You have to take you time slowly watering at first but as the plants get bigger and have bigger root systems, feed will be absorbed instantly, you to over excess feed to get a run off, you don't get feed pissing out of the holes, I pore my feed into a 2L jug and then into a small 1L plastic watering can, nice and slow feed.

For me coco and Airpots are the perfect coco, 3L are fantastic at getting small plants root systems goings, ideal to transplant straight into a 10L or 15L for indoor.

Hand saw, drill, drill bits, screwdriver attachment for the drill, wood, plastic bottom material, self-tapping screws.

That would be the bare-bones item list to my mind....

If you built the frame sturdy enough, you could be able to get away with
simply "scoring" the airpot sheeting to get around the corners as well.

Heh, when I said I had no metal or wood tools, I was being quite literal. I have a hammer, a screwdiver with adjustable tips, and a couple different pliers and clamps. Obviously, I could buy all those to fab a frame, but that's a bit beyond my current budget. Of course, if that's literally the only option, I'll do it.

I may just go to a hardware store and see if I can get some pieces of wood cut to size, some nails, epoxy and silicone. I'm still figuring out how to make the air-trough itself, but that's much easier to manage than the frame. If I can get the wood cut to size for me, I can hammer together a frame and secure the finished air-trough to it. This will take some...planning.

There is not enough time in the day to use a turkey baster. Get yourself a quart size bottle with a nozzle on it. Probably get one at the Dollar store while picking up some sink tubs to set your airpots in. I mix up my molasses and water every two days when they are rocking. Best of luck to you.

It takes about 5 minutes per plant (in a 2 gal. airpot) to feed with a baster...unless you have like 10-15 plants (that happen to be on the same feed schedule), it's not really an issue. If you water too rapidly, the solution will take the path of most saturation and end up out the bottom of the pot before it's been given time to soak in.

The PC case I'm using for my stealth grow has openings for a liquid cooling system. I was just going to seal them shut at first, but now I'm pondering rigging some kind of auto-watering system. I could run a tube from the opening, over the trough, and if I could find a way to let it drizzle over the medium, I would just need a way to drain/pump water from outside. It would also let me water or add tea without opening the case, for times when I can't open the box for very long.

Well, gbd would be a great guy to talk to regarding auto drip systems :)

There's nothing stealth about mine though, lol! Talk to me after my first run with it and I may have picked up some pointers.

My plan for now is to rig up a simple pump system; a length of tubing over the plants with holes to let it drip, then use a simple aquarium pump and an airline control kit valve and tee to pump water from a container into the case. I can probably use the same pump that I'll be using to aerate my water in the first place. Just switch lines for watering and feeding. My main concern is pressure: I'd have to seal the end of the tube inside the case, and I am worried about water pressure either being too high and rupturing the line or the seal, or too low and water and nutrients end up being unevenly distributed.

I'v been really enjoying these,

Well, my airpot arrived today...surprisingly quickly. I'd recommend buying from amazon if you're planning to get them; shipping said they wouldn't be here until next week, and they arrived after just two days.

First impressions: stiffer than I expected, but my basic plan should work just fine. Next stop: the hardware store for those nails and bits of wood. I have a very good feeling about this; the way I'm planning to build it is based off the conversation in this thread, and the brief glimpse of an airpot trough you see on the airpot website's video about their product.
