Experienced breeding tips wanted!

Hi everybody!

This is kind of a two-part post but many of the questions are the same, the two-part being there are two projects I'd like to ask specific strain-related breeding questions about.

Gear info:
Three cfl grow cabinets that hold 7-8 individual 6" pots and one 3" hydro hut with a blackstar led 400w.
Growing with botanicare cns-17 and tap water (24 hr sit before ph balance to ~6.0)
Expanded botanicare coco blocks

PROJECT ONE:
A friend of mine was getting bags of the first batch of original Girl Scout Cookies from the Sunset Diatrict in SF a couple years back so they had some seeds. He saved them and gave them to me when I got set up, and I want to breed an autoflowering variety with the same characteristics. I've read the threads and still have a few specific questions.

PROJECT TWO:
I was gifted a high CBN/CBD, low THC clone (female) and would also like to create and autoflowering variety of this strain.

Here are my questions:

1. When breeding to preserve pheno characteristics does it matter if the male or female is pheno? Obviously in the case of Project 2 I have no choice but to use a male auto and female pheno but in the case of Project 1 I have about a dozen GSC beans to work with so I could go either way. I will keep all plants alive while sexing the GSC's and then choose a GSC mother or two as well as possibly a male to use in the future depending on the feedback i get here.

2. In my experience you can't really replicate photo strains into autos... We're really just picking the important characteristics that we want to carry over and accepting that it won't be an autoflowering clone right? Any way i can pull this off with the CBD strain without lab testing?

3. For the strain and breeding experts - which strains should i breed? Feel free to suggest auto to auto crosses from this list, but specifically I would like suggestions about which of the following strains to breed with the GSC's and the CBD strain from people who are familiar with these strains. My auto list is as follows, and I will pick one variety to breed with each photo strain. All seeds are non-fem and I have 10-15 of each strain except the first three listed, of which I have 30-50 each.

The Spyder is supposedly a Sativa-dominant purple auto bred using TGA/Subcool genetics so i probably won't use that one for the CBD strain. I was thinking maybe just to use the Dragon Blueberries with both unless I find a crazy monster in my RRF pack:jaw:

So to recap, from that list what should i breed with the GSC's to best retain characteristics while creating autos? Use photo or auto male?

Last question: better to inbreed than to back cross with autos right? I plan on using CS after the first round of breeding, and will be for all auto to auto breeding (so I can share and still feel needed)

Im thinking of doing a cross of a ruderalis to blue dream since b.d. makes such huge buds and harvest.... Im wondering what a good auto to cross it to would be??? and how to get my hands on some regular autoflowers so I can hopefully get a male

Green god, I did extensive searching to find non-fem autos, since you're so close I'd try some dragon seeds from rcmc. Dragon blueberry would be my suggestion due to the blueberry being a common ancestor to both.

Thanks!! I've got ADHD and dyslexia so this is gonna take me a little bit to get through but I didn't want to space on giving gratitude for the info!
More updates to come, I'm sure I'll have some stupid questions with obvious answers along the way but I have a good sense of humor and lots of smoke so we'll get through this!:smoke:

I really want to distribute free high CBD auto seeds as a way to give back to the medical community that included me in medical legalization in CA even though my ailments are not terminal. Anybody searching for CBD-rich, low THC medicine should not have to pay for it.
In California, many of us are allowed to use cannabis freely. It's important for us to remember that this freedom ultimately accompanies a great deal of suffering, and all Prop 215 patients should find some way to pay it back to those in need.:clap:

First off let me reccomend you this site, it's got extensive backgrounds on most stains and is an excellent tool to use to match up potential crosses.

As far as your GSC beans in my opinion as noob learner of the arts of breeding would be if space allows to pop all 12 GSC cookies.... I than would veg them for quite a long while till you can start pulling clones from them... One method to sex quickly is when it comes time to top your plants stick the topped plant in a Rockwool cube in a humidity dome or even in just a glass of water and put it in your 12/12 tent. The key is you want to grow out all your ladies and not just look for physical characteristics but more importantly you want to taste and smoke each specimen and pick the very top favorite of them and use her as your mother.... The male on the other hand observe for structure any early trich production smell etc.. Pick the most healthiest beastly male of the bunch and use as a dad....
Don't limit yourself in the beginning of your project by not utilizing your men... After a few generations and you started to the strain to where you want it, than start the process of making fem beans.... I am breeding using only just fem seeds but also regs as well, the fem seeds I have may get crosses to purposely get their reg beans back ... Never under estimate us men.
Also as far as project two you got me a bit confused here are you not
Basically doing the same thing in project one as in two with just different strains? You'd do the same for both.
If you decide you honestly can't be bothered with the males and are content reversing a plant properly with CS or STS none of these stressor chemicals that make the plant Hermie than you will be fine... The process will be the same if not more refined as you'll be able to taste all the ladies first than pick the two you like best and reverse one and hit the other one off....

Also keep notes of what your doing and keep track of things, that's key! Also take from a reforming pollen chucker don't get in over your head... Work on the GSC ladies select and make more GSC fem seeds for yourself and also at that point pick an auto or two you'd like to cross it with....keep it as simple as possible and aim for quality not banging something out just to make a crappy strain.... I think for a strain to be used for anything other private use, than it's got to be the best you can muater up, in my opinion it's a breeders strains and their quality are what represent the breeders true intentions and his/her love for this god gifted medicine to all of human kind.
So personally you got yourself some precious seeds there, I'd do what ever you can first and foremost in procuring more by making some f2's of your top two of the twelve... Than you'll always have plenty of them if you want to alongside working on your projects you can start popping even more or GSC and try all her phenos potency etc and it will in the end make for one EXCELLENT AUTO! The ways of going about things are endless.... Just breed responsible, don't use genetics that get out of your hands that could portentously poison the already dwindling pure genetics....

When I am trying to make a new strain I always have a target before I start. That way the target helps decide on the strains I will use in the breeding process.
i.e. If my target was a medical strain then I would look at strains that are know for their medical benefits, like afghan

A word of caution though, when breeding with feminised seed you are unnaturally limiting the gene pool by deriving it of Y chromosomes. We don't fully understand how genes work yet, but what we do know from the past is that if a gene pool is unnaturally limited problems will occur in the offspring before long and has led to breeds having a genetic coding that includes defects.
This can be seen clearly in dogs, by inbreeding to preserve the pedigree some dogs are now genetically weak. the English bull terrier is a good example, this breed of dog is well known for having health and breathing issues due to its breeding.

When you breed with feminised seed I would always recommend going back to reg seed as soon as possible to re-balance the gene pool. Another thing that I would recommend is that you keep seeds from each generation of crosses, so if you do get an unexpected or unwanted result from a cross you can just go back a generation and try again.
