Hello all. Figuring on doing a nute change/cleaning tomorrow. My plants are now 3 weeks. Massive roots have now taken up residence inside my 10 gal tote. My questions are can I now eliminate the water pump that goes to my sites and what level should I keep my water below net pots? Being my first grow I would hate to mess with something that seems to be working fine as it is now. Thanks in advance!

hi steamer..

its a bit tricky to work out what you mean.. are you currently pumping water through the netpot, like a dripper ring etc../if so i couldnt say whether to turn it off or not, depends if you think any roots may suffer from drying out.
the water level in the pot is an argued point, some people like a gap between pot and water and some have it filled right up into the pot, it depends how much air your pumping in. if you have enough air it shouldnt matter to much.. i like to leave 1-2 inches below the pot but this is just my :2cents:

Do you mean Air Pump and not "Water Pump"?
If you do mean Air pump then no you cannot remove it, you need to be pumping as much air into your buckets as possible all the time.

Any chance you can post a picture of your setup or better explain what you mean :)

And as for the water level, I like p.l.u.r had mine at around an inch or 2 below the netpot. (note: this is only once the plant has a few roots well into the res)

Stunted Pump
:smokebuds:

I think he has a bubbleponics system, if so yes you can remove the feeder lines and water pump after the roots hits the rez. I agree with the other guys 2" below net pot.

Yes I guess that is what you consider my system. Sorry for my bad explanation. Can not post pics yet. Will try tomorrow. So the feeder pump can be removed now that I have a large number of roots in reservoir any other watering schedule for the rockwool and hydrotone?

Yeah you can take that out, no more watering the rock wool or hydroton. The roots in the water will take care of that.

so to continue with this line of thought, or go backwards rather, if the plant is a seedling and has very little root sticking out, where do you keep the water? or do you keep it in the same place and just top feed until roots hit the water?

I'm pretty sure that until the root comes down to where you can drop it a couple inches then you just keep the water level at the bottom of the net pot and rocks. The rocks will wick up into the rockwool. Hand top feeding is if you aren't sure it's getting enough I guess. Or I suppose you could just feed the rockwool until the root comes out then go with the reservoir water.

my last grow i hand watered(dipped netpot in water) till i see a root pop through, once it has you can put water level 1-2 inches below the netpot.. the roots then get watered by all the little bursting bubbles from the airpump untill they grow and are submerged in the res. :peace:
