Hey all,

I am putting 2 of my plants today into the dark for 48 hours before cutting and drying. The drying tent is in a basement which is cooler so I have 2 options and wasn't sure which one to go for.

Option 1 is if I leave my exhaust fan on which I don't need to run if it's not needed then my temp hovers between 60-65 closer to 65 and RH is 43-45% but I can't get it to go higher. That's with a humidifier and small space heater running as well. I will also have a fan pointed at the wall for air circulation but not on the plants themselves.

Option 2 is if I keep my exhaust fan off then I can get my heat up to over 70F and RH over 65% and I can play with both heater and humidifier to get it lower or dialed in differently.

I wasn't sure if I needed an exhaust fan running to pull fresh air in while drying or if really all I needed was the fan inside to circulate the air already in there around the tent to help prevent mold issues. I am guessing 43-45% RH is too low and will dry the bud out too quickly or would it be ok?

In my opinion it's best not to use a fan while drying. The herb will dry to fast... The most important thing is humidity and temperature... keep that at 50%/+-25°C and test (after a couple of days) if the branches snap. Then it's time to cure.

Regards Bob

I agree with @AutoBobje. I had a fan going under my plant drying in the tent and even though the fan was not hitting the plant at all, it dried too fast at 50-55% humidity. I would advise that if you dry the plant in the tent, open the front door 2 times a day just to air it out a bit.

Thanks for the advice to both of you. How long should I leave the door open on the tent. A few minutes, half hour?

It depends on the humidity in the tent. If the humidity rises above 60% I would air it out until you're back at 50%. If it's a small tent this won't take that long. About 5min I would say...
I've made a DIY about a drybox which I think could help you out in the future. For now I would go the manual way as your already drying ;)

If your house has 50-60% RH just cut branches off your harvested plant and place long branches in a large LAWN and GARDEN paper bag. These things are huge, 4 feet tall..........open it a few times a day, DO NOT SHAKE bag.......u will have trichs underneath layered paper bag inner sections. :D
