Hello all! First time grower here. I have quite a few seeds and plan on putting a couple in the soil. I will be using fox farms happy frog (60%), coco coir (25%) and perlite (15%) (or somewhere around there, definitely open to suggestions.) I will also be doing all organic dry fertilizers and was curious if you guys have any feeding schedules I should follow or not worry about it at all? I’ve googled it and can’t seem to find one with dry fertilizer, all the ones I have found are with liquid nutes. Also are they any specific brands I should look into and any npk ratios that work better than others? Just looking for everyone’s opinions, thank you in advance!

Hi Pinwheel

I was hoping someone with more experience would answer first, because I'm kinda new at this too. So far I'm using Gaia Green dry amendments in soil. I mixed in the recommended amounts before i got started. I'll put a picture of the containers. I experimented with 3 and 5 gallon fabric pots and so far the 5 gallon plants have always come out larger

when the plants are 3 weeks old I top feed with 2 tbsp of Gaia Green all purpose 4-4-4
when they are 6 weeks I give them 2 tbsp of 2-8-4 power bloom
I also top dress with like 2 handful worm castings when i do these feedings
I haven't tried any compost teas or anything like that.

I started growing this way because I started watching Mr.Canucks grow on youtube. He has good quality videos and good information, and super fat buds. anyways that's who I've been trying to emulate, so far so good. Hope that helps. peace

Definitely helpful thank you! And I’ve looked into getting the Gaia green products but unfortunately for me it costs more to ship it than the fertilizer itself

Dry amendments don't have a schedule, they are used as needed. I would definitely not recommend mixing coco and soil.. That's asking for issues. They are two completely different mediums that are treated much differently. You should start by picking a grow style.. Like soil or coco or hydro, and learn that style first.

Thank you for the feedback, I’ll definitely have to do a little more research. I plan on doing soil but I’ve read around and saw a few people post on here that they do a soil, coco, perlite mix. Would I be better off maybe doing 60% soil 30% perlite and maybe 10% worm castings? Give or take a little. I’m just worried about putting a seed directly in too hot of a soil.

Have you seen the plants in flower that these people are growing? Happy Frog is the "light" version of Ocean Forrest.. It was created for people who felt Ocean Forrest was to hot for seedlings.. Coco loco is their lightly amended coco for people who want to grow in coco.. There isn't a company that makes a soil and coco mix... There's good reasons for that.. Happy Frog has perlite.. And worm castings.. At adjusted levels for the amount of soil in the bag..

Why the urge to alter a professional recipe that already has what you're planning to add? Im trying to better understand the mindset of newer growers. It's seems that it's recently shifted from asking questions first in forums to following YouTube videos or word of mouth without asking any questions first. Im curious if you were told this info up front or if you asked questions and were advised to do it this way.. (This info is for personal use to help me get better at answering questions and understand where newer growers are coming from!)

For help with gaia green, definitely check out "mr. Canucks grow" channel on YouTube!
Or the Mr. Canucks thread in the infirmary, lol. Either or!

But top dressings take so long to work, how can you use them on an as needed basis? if you notice a deficiency then isn't it already too late??
