I was wondering if AF seeds take to germ methods the same as photo seeds? I always put my seed in a cup of water for a few days and wait for the root to show after it sinks. I assume this will work for AF seeds. I dont see why not, but was wondering if you guys have dif methods for them.

Reason I ask, I hear some AF seeds dont germ well with the paper towel method. I never used it but was curious if this was true. I am so bored at work lol so i figured why not pass some time n bs on AFN. PS for those who are afraid of drowning seeds using the water cup method. I never once lost a seed this way.

I soak my seeds for 24ish hours, then file them with my chainsaw file and put into paper towel and then sat near the cabinet exhaust, most will have popped and have big tails by next morning.

I think overall my bean pop rate is roughly the same no matter what method I use tho.

I always pop my seeds the same way. I put them into Joffy pucks and they do very well. I germinate about 50 seeds each month and this is the easiest way I have found. I don't soak em or paper towel them just throw them in the jiffy pucks and put them on my heating pad. I think heat is the real difference they like it warm but not hot. 80 to 90 degrees works the best. Buy a thermometer and a heating pad and adjust to be within that range. I have never noticed any difference between photos and autos they all pop the same.

I just do the sink in water then between paper towels method and it has never failed

you know in my days trying the paper towel method, it use to drive me CRAZY between keeping it wet then picking the seeds out of the mushy mess lol I stick with the cup of water until tap root is showing then into medium.

Soak don't soak.

Paper towel no paper towel

Directly into growing media

They all work and I don't think there is too much difference.

I think steady warm temperatures. I use a plant type heating pad set on low. Don't fry em. Steady over 80 F and not above 90
F is the answer.

Any method you have used with Photos, should work for Autos too.
If using the paper towel method - the towel should be damp, not wet - shouldn't have any mushy mess. Too wet may cause dampening-off

Only thing I have noticed about the water method is every now n then I get a slimy substance ilike an allergy on my seed and sometimes a funny smell from the water

I haven't soaked seeds unless they are very old types that I am growing to try and restart a breed that I am just about out of seed stock on. If they are a couple of years old I do soak them first to see if the hulk will crack and I will get to see a root emerge. I can never remember a seed giving off a bad smell but I have had seeds that had just died and they just sat in the water until I threw them out.
