Auto Guru
Hey Peeps... been away for a while, moving and life getting crazy.. not growing ATM but soon... still indoor and probably a small tent. anyway.
I've been playing with Autos for almost 4yrs and have done many experiments with them, some by necessity and some just to learn the beast better..
Here's my question: Does starting Autos in small plastic cups like a solo 20oz stunt Autos...
I say yes.... and here's why. Results don't lie and every person who complains to be about Autos and them not yielding more then a 1/2oz, plants only got a foot tall, autos suck blah blah blah.... I think this is a combo of stunting the tap root early in it's life.. and usually not enough watering and possibly over feeding treating it like a photo period.. there is a learning curve.
Right now I have 3 people who have already regretted not listening and one guy says, but it's only gonna be 10 days... I said, damage is already done probably bro, sorry... and it's the beast because these same excellent growers start photo periods in the same cups.. but then again they have a veg period of 4-12wks..
Transplanting: I was also told NOT to transplant them... to start them in 3-5gal pots.. problem for me was, don't have the room or the $ to do 15 of them like I have to for allowing males to be culled just to get the 6 ladies I need.... so, I started them all in 1gal plastic nursery pots.. when they sexed I chose the best 6 ladies and up potted them into 3gal felt pots and 2wks later they've doubled in size...
Light Cycles: I've used them all... 24/0, 18/6, 12/12, 14/10, and I found out I got the best results using a method I created after trying all these cycles..
Veg: 18/6 up thru the plants sexing and males are culled.. I think the extra dark cycle in early veg makes them respond best..
Pre-Flower: 12/12, this was after sexing and up potting, I'd wait a week and then switch lights to 12/12. What seems to happen with certain strains, many of them, is the photo period genes that are laying dormant still affect this plant and cause it to stretch and react.. I do this for anywhere from a week to 2 weeks watching the plants, they'll tell ya when to switch.. but 2wks max usually.
Flower: 20/4 up thru finishing..
This is my method of madness... and using it I've never had a plant stunt unless it was in early germ during week 1.. Never have I had one stress bad during transplanting..
So what say You..? Does using small cups to start Autos stunt them?
