When dimmable lights became popular in the 1970's, they were pushed as an energy saving device, which turned out to be false. The extra electric was disapated as heat, with no savings.

Is that true for the new digital dimmable ballasts??

Thanks for any input!!!!

This is an interesting question I have not been able to obtain a definitive answer from electricians besides a guess of "if the dimmer does not heat up, then it uses less energy"
My question was towards a hall room dimmer left on over night for the kids for several years.

Thanks for the reply!! Doubt it save any energy, and is not a feature I would use. Just wondered.
