hello and welcome to my work shop. today's project is a small carbon filter for a small grow space using readily available materials.
What we'll need is:
1. a cylindrical container with a screw on lid. I used a fish food container that is 3.5 inch diameter x 8 inch tall with a hole cut into the lid
2. a section of pvc pipe 1 to 2 inch's smaller than the inside diameter of the container
3. a pvc pipe reducer coupling
4. common hand tools,a saw and a drill. I used a 9/64 inch and 3/16 inch drill bits.
5.Activated carbon and filter floss. these can be had at a pet store that carry fish tank supplies.
first, I cut the hole in the lid to fit the pvc reducer in. all I did was mark it and cut with a knife.
next, cut a length of the smaller diameter pvc pipe, long enough to fit snug between the reducer and bottom of the container.
once fitted, I drilled 9/64 inch holes on the lower 1/2. the more the better. this will take a little while as the more hole's the better.
on the top 1/2 of the container I drilled 3/16 holes, cuz I'm lazy and this part will have the floss in it.
I set the small tube in, holes at the bottom, and filled the space between with the carbon, up to the bottom outside holes, filling the center with carbon also.
next, stuff the floss between the 2 to the top, and the same on the middle tube
and button it all up. in true trailer park fashion I used duct tape, lol
all hooked up
and finally tested with this.
nice stinky bud smoke blown thru and no odor out.
the most important thing I think are the upper and lower holes. this forces the air over the most carbon.
I haven't found a scrubber that fits in my small cab without taking up 1/2 the space. this takes up a corner that's empty any way. I have it connected to a 4 inch pc cooling fan that I use for my exhaust
any way, I hope this helps. if any questions feel free to ask.
