Besides the precipitating some minerals and softening the water, this stuff looks interesting. Does anyone have any experience with it? It seems like the cal mag can be re-introduced, and I don;t know at what levels it is precipitated.
Anyways.. some days Ph perfect seems the only reasonable option.

Interesting, never saw this product before. Any idea what they are using to regulate the buffering?

Well, I have a two part stab at that answer.. Firstly, the Discus buffer is Phosphorus based, and secondly there is another product, called "NEUTRAL REGULATOR" It too is a phosphorus based product. Their stability is supposed to be quite good for a freshwater environment.

The reason I say two stabs is because the Discus Buffer measurements are based upon a neutral ph (7) which is created through the use of the Neutral Regulator.

It looks promising for someone who would like to simulate PhPerfect. However the matter of precipitation still kinda worries me.. BUT in further reading it seems that excessiver amounts of the hard water minerals (calcium especially) can overwhelm the system and Ph goals won;t be achieved. With that in mind, I'm pretty sure that after getting my stable Ph I could add a MicroNutrient solution to get my desired effects, as well as using my own very specific Nitrogen.. An extra testing kit for the amount of Phosphorus will be needed, until I can find out more.
Not saying I'm going to do this, but those are the steps I can see to find out if this is a possible balance between big box ph balancing chems and boutique/homemade nutes.
