Alright I've already tried this once today but here we go again. This is my 5-gallon single airlift vortex brewer that i've built from parts i had left over from various projcts. So with that in mind im showing you my brewer as a guideline and to show you the problems i had and how i problem solved them. you want to build your brewer to cater to your needs. I went through about 3 different types and designs till i settled on this one. The reasons why i settled on the vortex brewer.
1.got tired of buying airstones
2.there are no dead spots will not go anaerobic
3.can sufficiently brew aact and nutrient teas(there is a difference)
4.optimal co2 do2 release
Most of the information i gathered to make this project is found on http://www.microbeorganics.com/ read the whole page to better under stand microbe organics before you begin. the rest i just googled and found on other forums.
So these are most the materials i used to make mine i don't suggest you try to copy mine exactly i used what i had laying around and there are better alternatives than what i used.
(do not use pipe glue on anything u want it to come apart to clean it after every use)
5-gallon culligan bottle(without the handle)
eco commercial air 1 (this is the smallest pump you can use)
1" pvc pipe and 1" elbows and tee's (biggest size you can use with this pump)
coulple different size air tubing
some patience and common sense
I will add captions next to the pics of importance and why i did certain things to make it work with a small sized pump.
this is what the finished product looks like
first pic the pump take the brass fitting off that comes with the pump it restricts cfm and ziptie a hose that fits over the nipple like so.
next thing that i had a problem with is when i first built it was i had an elbow coming straight out of the 5-gallon tank which wasn't giving me enough throw to create the vortex. so i came straight down out of the water bottle into 1' of pipe so i creates more of a drain or what i call throw. It has to be atleast 1' no less but it can be more here's a pic.
Next i used elbow's and tee's to build the airlift which use's air to lift the water to the top of the water bottle in which waterfalls back into the brewer. I have the elbow that is feeding the the waterfall at about 22.5 degree angle give or take.check it out
one of the most important parts is that everything is level and true so the vortex has a center gravity to it or it just wont work properly.now when i got to the top where it feeds back into the system instead of using an elbow i used a tee and about 6" of pipe and a end cap and drilled a hole for my tubing to fit in here's a pic.
now i ran my tubing to the very bottom of the pipe i found that is the best place for my lift to start to get the maximum lift of water for the vortex to work properly. here's a video to show how it works

i'm not the best at typing and explaining what i know in text but i did it the best i could if i find anything i missed or need to add i will. Or if you have any questions or if you need any help at all just ask here and i will be glad to help to the best that my knowlegde will let me.
thanx
