I dont know much about hps,but im pretty sure that 12 inches is too close ,you might be cooking them .try moving light higher and see if that helps .the top of the girls should not feel any heat from the lamp.Im sure someone else will jump in here shortly that uses hps and give there opinion.Ive been wrong before.

When ya say eighty what do ya mean over eighty five is no good, and light should be raised with every inch of verticak growth, I think....hope this helps:toke:

This looks of heat stress to me. HPS are pretty warm back that sucker up. 12inches is too close. 80's are a little warm. And yeah it's confusing when you just say '80's'. That could be 89 which is too damn hot. You're looking for temps between 73 and 79. Low 80's(80-83) won't spontaneously explode your girls or anything but I wouldn't go above 85. I like to stay below 80 really.

lol thanx for replies ya i say 80s becuz its all over the place in 80s and yes has gotten over 85 many times highest has been 90 cus our weather is changin so we have cold days then warm days so temps r all over the place i think i just put a fan in there and should take care of the fluctuations in temps and as far as to close i did the test wit my hand and by that i could lower the light probly another 3 inches as far as movin the light higher i am at max if i really need to i would need to cut a door in the bench table above the grow area ( hope i dont have to do that lol i also just tied a few branches downward and gave me little bit of room from the tops to the light

What kind of exhaust do you have? It's definitely too hot in there. And if 12inches is the highest you can take that HPS, you'll definitely have some problems. A circulation fan won't really cool it down much if any, that's just gonna blow your hot air around that's in there. You gotta get that hot air out and fresh cooler air in. Going above 85 or so can really stunt your plants.

well guess i will be doing sum modifications lol all i was really relying on was the natural neg pressure created by rushing air that comes in from windows and cracks of the shed and then by sum wat isolating an area on ground level of the shed i semi sealed off the grow area and air would rush in the front and hot air was rushing out a square opening i left open at back top corner but i guess just not enough so i added today a box fan in the front corner blowing air at a faster rate then has been and the warm air is exiting that back corner much faster now so hopfully this will solve problem if not will install fans into walls venting to outside and fan sucking air in from outside

As long as you have a fan pulling enough air out then passive intake is just fine. Not saying that won't work how you have it but it just seems too hot in there. Good luck man.

k so i have 1 fan atm so my question is shall i use it as exhaust and just let air be pulled in natrauly or should i use the fan as intake of air and let the warm air just exit on its own ? wat way would the fan be used best

Active exhaust, passive intake. Will you not need to have a filter for your smells where you are?
