First I built a 4 Cree CXB3590's 3000k 80 cri on a frame made with 1/8" aluminum plating that was in the trash at my job site. I butted two together, and used a third to join them with self tapping screws. Used a 2.5 inch hole saw to cut out the cob holes. Had to jigsaw some notches for the wire to pass through.

Then I drilled mounting holes and tapped the heatsinks to fit.

Once everything was drilled/tapped cob holders and all, I wired her up.

Then I decided that it needed more, so I bought 4 CXB3590's 3000k 90cri to fill in the middle. And this is what she looks like now.

I actually made a lil pictorial on another site for this rig. Not sure if it's allowed to share a link to it.

Here they are in their home.

Gotta say that building these are a fun project, I actually was semi addicted to building them. I have only done 1 grow with these, and I am pleased with the results. Because of the summer heat they were driven at a total of 300w on an autoflower run. I have the ability to drive around 700w with these 2 rigs. So this winter the heat will be beneficial.

Peace, Roast.:pass:

Hell yeah man! Sweet builds for sure and I really like the cleanliness of all those wires. It gets tough managing it but you did a nice job.

Gotta ask why did you choose active cooling? Also what did it cost per cob? I don't go crazy over the few watts the fans draw but with the price is pin heat sinks being so low that's what I chose. Plus a little less wiring.

Thanks a ton for sharing roasty. Maybe us DIY nuts can see some more from you in the future?

Thanks man! There are much cleaner ways of doing it but I'm lazy and used what I had which was wire nuts and ty-wraps. I went with actives cause I thought at the time it would be better and a lot cheaper, but I have learned otherwise since. You know, some of us learn the hard way. If I need to build another I'll go passive fo sho. I think I could go passive with these if the fans burn out as I have very good air exchange and airflow in my setup. And I ran my Cree's at 20w a piece last grow.

My first set of 4 Cree's I got raped over the coals by Mouser, again learning the hard way, at $64 a piece.
Got the second set of 4 from Cutter for $207 with cob holders and reflectors and shipping included. I believe the prices are coming down with new generations are coming out.

I'll definitely be lurking here in the DIY.

Nice Builds!

Thanks, they are more awesome than I expected them to be.

Here is my ladies under them now. 1 Bubba's Gift, 1 EWE-2, 2 Pure AK. These are photoperiod's flipped a week ago.

AK's are 2 on the right, EWE-2 front left, Bubba's Gift left rear.

Plants are looking great there. I bet temps are also looking good too. Do you plan on doing a journal here with the cobs? I'd love to see how it goes for you.

Ya @BigSm0 I was gonna share how these did with them under the led's. My first photoperiod grow under them.
Great and best of luck to you. Since this is so addicting you may want to look into the citizen cobs. The clu048 1212 is very close to the 3590's and only $13 each.

No plans for a new build any time soon, but that is a great price for comparable cobs.
