I found where the tape had come loose and I had a opening in the cover on my earthbox Jr around the stem. Looked good under the cover and found 2 gnats. I dropped a piece of mesquito dunk down the film tube but I want to make sure I prevent an infestation. I'm gonna get some new mesquito dunk tomorrow dissolve some in water and top water with it and do it again in a week. Should I do something else?

You could put some diatomatious earth around the stem so that the little buggers can't get past the stem without crawling through the stuff. It needs to stay dry to kill the bugs. Snug your cover around your stem, and pile the DE all around the stem touching the stem all the way around. Also, plug your water intake so they can't get down it and into your reservoir.
The mosquito dunks are a good idea too. It sounds as though you are on to this early enough. Good luck with it.
