If you have a pH meter and you are concerned it might be out of calibration, use this almost free test procedure.
1. Mix 1/2 tsp baking soda (probably already in your frig) with 1/2 cup water.
2. Test pH using your pen. It should read 8.0 which is the natural pH of baking soda.
3. Adjust your pen +/- to read 8.0
4. Re-test pen to confirm.
I suggest doing this each week or so.
Another tip: If your pen seems to wander, not keep calibration or otherwise act strangely,
1. Rinse the probe's tip well to dissolve any accumulated salt/debris.
2. If still acting strangely, replace your batteries. Certainly do this yearly or buy a new cheap meter. Keep the last one as a spare in case of failure.
Good farming to all! :smoking:

Tap water numbers can vary. RO or distilled would have to be used. Cheap meters aside, Atlas Scientific has an entire ph management kit that is inexpensive. I calibrate every three weeks. Probe storage solution is great.

A half tsp of baking soda would raise my tap ph over 9.
