I have dr earth all purpose 444 dry amendment, I was thinking that if my plant begins to show signs that its hungry of nitrogen, phosphorus, and or potassium, why dont just top dress the all purpose 444 dry amendment rather than using it in conjunction with another dry amendment? If it's all purpose and the npk is 444, wouldn't that satisfy the soil in resupplying nutrients for the plant?

Yes. That is the point of top dressing with a blend of dry amendments. I use the craft blend by Build A Soil.. It's a mix of about 10 different amendments.. Its 4-4-2 and works perfectly.

So then why do some use all purpose 444 with a blooming dry amendment at 394? Does the blooming dry amendment 394 just give extra phosphorus?

Everyone is different. I don't know why some people use both. It could have something to do with their medium.. They could be growing photoperiods.. Most people do a "flower" top dress before they switch to 12/12. There are tons of variables as to why people grow they way they do. With autos, there is really isn't enough time to do two separate top dresses. Flowering usually starts around day 30-45 which is around the same time you may need the 1st top dress.. In flower I just add molasses to my water, or use banana peels to make a potassium feed. Autos don't need heavy nutrients because they only live for about 75 days..

I use dr earth with my autos and amend the coco to start with heavy on the all purpose side but add flower girl on a lighter side. It is suggested that dr earth amendments last around 4 weeks but it takes a couple days for the top dressing to become available for the plant when watering. Then about 3 - 4 weeks I go with a balance of the two as a top dress and then about 3 - 4 weeks heavy on the bloom and light on the all purpose side.
With autos it’s a time crunch and they go quickly into flower so you want to get the bloom nutrients going right off the bat but you still need to support the growth of the plant as well through the transition over to fllower and through stretch
