hello all and thanks for stopping by to have a look....

so. i had my first wee venture into growing this year with three little lowryders in the garden and despite having to chop em a bit earlier than i would have liked, they came out really well and i was very pleased with them - which of course got me thinking that i should have a little go at a bit of indoor gardening....

my question is this - could i pick your collective brains about the best sort of set up? i don't want to do a large scale thing, just a little grow to keep me in green through the year so i don't have to go and buy substandard street gear. i've been looking and looking at people's set ups and whilst they're all really impressive i just want something simple. i've got a loft that i can use and was thinking about going down the secret jardin hobby kit style route. i reckon i'd prob looking at trying to grow 3 to 4 oz a year - that'd keep me pretty happy!

Does anybody have any suggestions/recommends that might help me to realise this? I'm totally inexprerienced with indoor and i should state at this point that i'm also an idiot so the simpler the better!

thank you all so much for reading this and thanks in advance for any advice that you might have to throw my way.

cheers

Start picking away.........I think if you are a little more specific about what you have in mind, how much space do you have, how warm is this space in winter, what kind of lights, what kind of growing(soil, soilless, hydro.....?), etc., etc.......then there will be plenty good advise coming your way

Hey bud! Glad to hear your burning your own now!
I believe you would be happy with a t5 fluorescent fixture. I have grown many autos under different types of fluorescent lights and the t5s are awesome for the smaller grows and vegging. If you do some canopy control a large scrog is possible with good results. The only real limitation is that the light doesn't penetrate too far.

After you figure a light out you can try whatever underneath to get a feel for different options ... I tend to go with simple methods like organic soils with a little bit of liquid nutes throughout budding.

hey corgy - first off great avatar pic!

thank you buddy. i have a large loft but was thinking of something quite small. maybe a 2-4 plant set up? i think i'd prefer to grow in soil - that's the easiest, right? and lightwise, i have no idea and am open to suggestions. my loft will definitely get cold in the winter - i'm in london.

thanking you for your time and trouble in coming back.

It helps to know that you are in the UK, there is a difference in what gear is available either side of the big pond.

Well, I just got set up about 4 months ago, and based on what you say you have in mind....

2-4 plants, how large pots do plan to grow in? I have a 145 x 145 x 200 cm room with 6 plants in 25 L Autopots, and the room is too small, in all 3 directions........I have app. 800w actual LED light in this room and it is bursting at the seems at day 40. It all depends on the strains you plan to grow, what pot size you use, and of course how green your thumbs are!

Do you need to be stealthy when it comes to smell?

Is power consumption an issue?

Do you plant to actively heat the loft, or rely on the heat coming off your lights?

What strains do you have in mind? large, small, medium.....fast or slow(er) harvest?

Probably the best approach is for you to read a lot, here and elsewhere, then try to put a gear, or set-up list together, and start asking questions from there. That's how I did it, and gives the people you are asking a little bit of a foundation to start on.

I hope this helps a little!

- that's more than helpful - thank you so much, Corgy. - yes, I'm in a terrace so I think i'm going to have to be careful re smell - i hadn't thought about heating the loft but maybe i'm going to need to - though it's a big old loft so perhaps i need to find another smaller space and strainwise i hadn't really thought about it - there's no mad rush to grow stuff quickly though.

i'm going to take your advice and read a lot more stuff. thank you brother, you're a star.

cheers
