Title says it. What do you guys use to check if it’s time to harvest or not. The little jewelry loupes?

I gave up on a loupe, there was no way I could hold it steady enough to examine live plants, and I did not like to rip pieces off to enable more effective inspection. Ditto for a Carson microscope. I now do trich inspections using macro photos taken with a digital camera.

I recommend that you get a wifi microscope, they are available for not a whole lot more than a good loupe.

Good luck with it.

I’ll have to look into this as well. My hands aren’t as steady as they once were and using a loupe is definitely tricky.

i use a USB microscope im the same as @Olderfart shaky hands my scope is only a cheap amazon one but you can use it on a mobile phone with an OTG cable adapter or go with a wifi one

I use one of the wifi microscopes. No ones hand is going to be steady enough to take good pictures that close up freehand. I just jam the lens into the bud and take a bunch of pics. Hasn't done any damage that I have noticed.

I am in the shaky hands club too. I bought one of the USB microscopes after trying the loupe.

I went with the Plugable 2.0 and bought it off amazon. I like the little arm attachment. The clip that holds the microscope itself has a standard 1/4" photography thread so you can use a tripod with an arm to get close. I will say pushing the button on the 'scope to take the shot does make it shake. I find it easier to have it plugged directly into my laptop and hit the button on the screen so there is no touching the actual unit. At 250x you can see a lot but any motion = blur.

I have seen lots of other people on here have good luck with the phone macro lens option as well. I am unsteady so decide what might work best for you.

I just ordered this one --> LINK
Previously used a SD version of the same type of camera, but wanted a crisper resolution.
The new one should be delivered today so I'll soon have some decent trich shots from my Port & Stilton
