So I am a big fan of the Boveda Humidity packs. I used them for years with high end cigars and I trust them to be pretty dang spot on. I do find that they raise and hold humidity levels better than reducing them.
Well what happens when they dry out and get hard? They say not to re wet or reuse them. Just a little trick I found and thought I should share.
The packs will only hold so much moisture. So place them in a sealed container with some distilled water. Create a platform so they don't touch the water and let them absorb the humidity until they are back to a nice, soft, plump feeling package again.
Here is how I did mine: This is not a quick process. It needs a couple day but will be very effective.
Old packs? They will get hard and stiff. That's when you know they need a recharge.
Fill a clean container with a little bit of distilled water. It doesn't take much.
This is the tricky part. Create a platform above the water. I found these takeout lids fit nicely in this particular container.
All you really need to do is create an air gap so the moisture can reach but not touch the packs.
Set your packs on the platform
Put the lid on and wait A COUPLE DAYS. This is not a quick fix for dried out packs you need now. By elevating the packs they never touch the water and so cannot become soggy or be forced to absorb more moisture than the pack can hold. It is a semi-slow process but should revitalize your old and dried out humidity packs. I will say check them against a hygrometer if you have one.
