I read elsewhere, on a site that indexes strains and their lineage, that Bubba Kush was one of the original parents used in creating Fast Buds' Blackberry. Can anyone confirm this please?

And if this isn't the case does anyone know what the real parents are?

Seedfinder.eu is good place for gentics family trees

Yeah that's the website I was referring to. I want to find out if its claim of Bubba Kush parentage is accurate, or not.

I think it's about the closest information you can get on gentic with out actually talking to the breeder. Then you hope their information is correct.
Mind you fastbuds Blackberry is a much loved strain on AFN that I bet someone will pop on in soon with the answer.

I really wish they exhibited Mephisto-tier transparency with their strains, would make it easier for me to decide what to grow.

you will never get exact parent info from fastbuds. if you read between the lines its easy to figure out why. They basically take photo strain and pollen it with an auto until it becomes an auto and boom, new fast bud strain.

so to answer your question, it will likely start out with a clone of original strain and good genetics. Problem is you have no visibility into what auto they crossed it with and how that has affected the overall new product and how it might differ from the clone only or photo strain.

also since they just take it to first stage of autoland, you can assume almost all of their seeds are f1s or f2s so you will get way more variance among seeds of same strain. on positive side you will get the explosive growth typical of f1s.

wish fastbuds would be more transparent as well, but afraid if they did it would ruin part of the aura of the california super grow team and dream strains they are trying to project...with that said, i have had really good success with their zkittlez, gelato, and smoothie strains.

how does this differ with say a mephisto or nightowl? they select across multiple generations looking for traits that reflect the original strain they are trying to carry over to auto. as strains are usually taken to f4 to f6 state, you get way more uniformity across seeds of same strain. also they have worked their autos that they use to cross for many generations as well so they are decently strong in their own right and they publish all the parenting info so you will know which auto they used and how that has affected overall auto product.

with both companies they have started with extremely good genetics so their will be winners among both...

I undertand what you're saying, in addition after doing a bit of digging yesterday it seems a lot of people think FB is just a re-seller and isn't actually doing any breeding themselves - would certainly explain the complete lack of transparency. If true I wouldn't be surprised if they were somewhat in the dark regarding the lineage of some of their offerings. I should add though, whoever is doing the breeding, that unless they're crossing 2 pre-existing auto lines, the seeds should be at least F3 since crossing a photo with an auto creates 100% photo seeds; then the F2s of this cross will be only 25% auto; not until the F3 generation can 100% of offspring be guaranteed to be autoflowering if selected properly. There should be some degree of stability beyond that of F2s but of course how much exactly all depends on the skill of the breeder.

It really is a breath of fresh air to have companies like Mephisto and Nightowl out there. I've decided I'm now only buying from those who are more open like this from now on - these guys truly love their work and it shows. I just wish Nightowl had a distributor here in the UK, maybe one day.
