Experienced growers, which do you prefer/which provides the most potency and yield?
a) Plants with lots of branches and buds, or
b) Plants with fewer branches but more massive buds?
Related to this are training priorities: Train plants for many branches/buds, or go for taller central cola-type growth (which can include no training)?

Theoretically, I would presume 'more branches, more buds' is the way to go. More buds on more branches will get better light, more circulation, more effcient feeding (on their own stems), etc. This provides much more bud (and leaf) surface light exposure. Otherwise with big colas, most of everything is uselessly buried within, not exposed to light or air, which I presume are critical factors here. In terms of which approach provides best yield, I have no idea, other than 'more branches, more buds' should theoretically provide more biomass.

In my limited experience, attractive smaller buds are just as,if not often more, potent than same level large central colas. For myself, I judge each bud individually, and bud size is irrelevant. And otherwise, even big top/main colas often don't impress me as being the most potent of all the plant's buds.

Hey @BII ,as far as potency goes I don't have an opinion based on "proof" so I won't waste space or your time trying to justify one over the other...I am currently running an experimental type grow with my Dutch passions AU plants, one plant was left to grow naturally and one plant was fimmed multiple times( 14 places at two different times) the two plants have grown differently with the fimmed plant having the larger colas you mention.Your welcome to have a look at the proof of how training affect the structure of the plant and possibly the yield( they still have about 30 days +\-.Note:I have read that potency is greater at the top of most/all plants ..Peace

You will get a higher yield from more branches. It also reduces the risk of mold. Those huge baseball bat sized buds are perfect breeding grounds for mold. They have so many layers of flowers, you can not tell what is happening inside those monsters.

Amen to that Hal,last season I had a 100% loss of a huge golden goat photo plant to mold,I wouldn't even risk it for extracts..

Like they all say. Last grow I had a huge cola on one plant that I was really looking forward to harvest and weigh.
Sadly I had to throw away half of it because of mold.

Rilla.
