being cautious in prohibition land

Hi,

wanted to start this topic, for a friend, who is in prohibition land.
Would like to get some input on what folks should be looking out for when growing, getting their supplies, etc, etc. perhaps even how to take extra measures inside the grow, burn vs throwing out trimmings, etc. etc.

I have heard stories about cops following people from grow shops, or tracking certain transactions.
What are some of the things we all should be doing and looking out for?

Every thing you do in the grow can be a "tell" so grow some tomatoes where they can be seen. Even dead tomato plants in a pot can be a disguise for growing supplies. Buy your yearly supplies in the spring when you would be planting your outdoor garden. Avoid suspicion by doing the obvious.

I'm in a similar situation. I paid cash for target visa gift cards and used those to buy everything. Definitely helps cut the electronic paper trail.

Download a vpn to use whenever going online to research anything. Or access a forum like this. I use proton vpn. Very easy.

I've not seen the police watching the local hydro shop but it's also a legit garden center and they are not a hydro/head shop. I stopped in a few times to ask questions about the local soil for growing flowers, herbs (basil parsley), etc. Act "dumb" to the idea of growing mj.

We do have quite a garden outside and several tropicals visible inside. I'd recommend stopping in to enquire about starting a regular small garden and you can use most of the stuff for both. I also specifically requested things that didn't have a witch doctor smoking a bong on the label. Become a regular customer.

Be careful what you buy on amazon.

Don't talk to anyone about it.

Even burpee seed catalog had giant led grow lights and hydroponic equipment now so I don't think it's too suspicious anymore.

Great points. I am diversifying my grow to include other plants and herbs. Could be far more vigilant with the vpn etc.

I am in prohibition land and honestly the police are not interested in small personal grows. I have heard the on the local radio that they are looking for commercial grows and are wasting too much time, money and resources on busting people with 4 plants. They want commercial growers.

Same in my area! Local sheriff said they will not actively pursue mj in my town or area! Way more concerned with meth and heroin! State troopers no longer train their dogs to sniff canna either! Stopped doing that two yrs ago in prep for legalization. I’m in NY.

Yes, thats the number one way to get "caught." You tell one person and they feel cool to tell someone else and then boom, the whole office knows and the guy you never talked to asks about buying a bit from you.

I had a darkroom back in the 80's for developing photos. One mention of that and the chemicals, someone decided that meant I was making acid, and that reputation never went away.

Same thing with this hobby. Whatever your motivation, do not let yourself become tagged as "the weed guy."
