Hi Guy's
Autos and Photoperiod,so many different strains of each! God knows how you choose, they both have their good and bad points i know.
When i first considered my 400 HPS,many people said less is best regarding yeild and that 4 plants [Photoperiod] would be a good idea, giving 4 nice size plants equaling a good yeild, thats good i though, thats one idea. Also considering the light pen on a 400 HPS is about 3 to 3.5 feet.
So, as most Auto's are smaller AND yeild less,or so they say? Could i fit more Auto's under the 400 for a higher over all yeild than the 4 average size Photo's ?? if you know what i mean?? So less light pen would be needed??? Or as Auto's are smaller, would my 400 hps perform better? Lots of people say Auto's yeild much less? Less potent?
Any info appreciated
Cheers Guys.

Autos will usually yield less than photos given their size difference. If you grow 4 photos and average 4 oz. per plant, that's 16 oz. If you grew 9 autos in that same space, and average 2 oz. per plant, that's 18 oz. Of course, the yields may vary depending on the strains you grow and your growing skills.

Regarding potency, I think that you won't find a whole lot of difference between photos and autos. A few years ago that was the case but autos have been catching up quickly. Photos may still have a bit of an edge, but it really come down to smoking say, 6 hits off a photo or 8 off an auto to get the same high.

Hi Muddy,
thats very interesting info mate,cheers.
Can't remember if it was you, might have been another experienced grower on a different site that said....'Can't think of anything better than short Indicia Auto's to start with if your a beginner or have limited knowledge'
Sounds good to me! :]

I wasn't me that said that, but it's pretty sound advice.

I did my first grow with an auto and they have the potential to get very big, or stay just the size you want. its also really good to not have to stress so much if you wanna work around them during lights off. Fast growing. I meen these are a few pros of autos. What do you want to accomplish with this grow? Maybe autos are perfect for you.?

Hi,
well to be honest and as i'm only doing 4, 2 oz per plant would be great,is that a bit too optimistic from an Auto ? As i have a good size space i'd like to grow them as big as they can get really, using 10 Lire pots.
What should i be aiming for regarding humidity, through out the whole grow please ?
Cheers.

The final yield depends so much on your skills as a grower. If you get them off to a good start and don't run into any serious issues, then 1.5 - 2 oz. per plant is realistic. The key to growing autos is to get them as big as possible during veg.

Thanks Pal,
Is it true Muddy that all Auto's are Indicia's? Hence their size?
When i said i would like 2oz a plant,i wasn't being greedy,just hoping for a little success i guess.
Cheers mate.

No, not all are indicas. Dwarf autos are derived from ruderalis, a 3rd type of plant, along with sativas and indicas. Most of the early autos were bred to indicas to keep them short and to take advantage of the shorter flowering period of indicas. But now there are also many that contain a percentage of sativa, like Auto Assassin, Russian Rocket Fuel and Sour Diesel Haze, to name a couple. Super autos, on the other hand, do not contain any ruderalis and are mostly sativa. They were bred as a fast finishing alternative to long flowering sativas and are best suited for outdoor growing.
