Hey everyone,

like so many new growers with very little knowledge I am starting a thread to try and increase my chances od success. Its Automatic feminised all the way and I have 5 AK and 1 Blueberry x sweet tooth on the go.

My set up consists of 1x 1 x2 tent, 5" extraction fan, rhino filter, desk top fan. 400 w dual spectrum lamp (sunmaster) and 400 w ballast. 125 w CFL blue (6500) for starting off reflector, 10 litre airpots, 3 filled with plant magic nd 3 filled with bio bizz light mix. Oh yeah and 6 little ladies who are hopefully going to make me very happy in 2 months time!:gthumb:

I am 7 days in and its all looking good so far. All but 1 Ak are just starting on their second node and the runt is just popping her head out of the soil tonight. Its taken her 9 days where as all the others came up within 24 - 48 hours!!! Its all good tho!

Already I have made mistakes, as anyone new to anything inevitably does! Therefore I have a few questions but don't want to bombard you! My main concern at the moment is if I have gone too low with a 125 watt CFl, I tried my Dual specrum, dimmed to 250 w but found a dramatic decrease in humidity which worried me at this early stage. That's because I had to turn on the extraction fan to lower heat. to sum up

CFL current conditions - (3-4 inchs away)
- Humidity 60 - 70%
-Temp 22 - 24 C
-Airflow desk top fan and passive intake of fresh air from window (2 feet away)

HPS Dual Spectrum Conditions
- Humidity 30 - 40 %
-Temp 25 - 28 C
Airflow 5" extractor with desk top fan. Passive intake of fresh air directly from window.

Should I persist with the CFl or use my HPS which I think may be to strong for 7 day old plants! I would have to greatly increase humidity with this option. Possibly cover plants with clear ends of plastic bottles!

Any advice would be amazing and I would be very very greatful.

One last question, like the typical newbie I am is on watering. I pre-soaked the pots and have been desperate to water! Everyone says a very common mistake is to overwater when its your first grow and I have ony sprayed the soil to keep it moist and added a shot glass of water to the area around the plant most days. 2" below the surface the soil is now damp but not dry. The pot feels considerably lighter but still has some weight. Shall I now water until run off. I should add I germinated directly in 10 l airpots so don't want to drown them!!

Thanks in advance for all who can help.

I have decided to grow because I believe in the freedom of mother nature and the benefits of the graceful herb!

Oh yeah, and I am dry as a bone!!!!

hey peeps,Can anyone help me out here? don't know whether to stick with 125w (6500) or go to dual spectrum sunmaster 400 w, dimmed to 250 watt? to recap my seedlings are 8 days old, on their second node but looking slow compared to others. Thanks very much for any input .......................................................zelda

Can anyone help, I packed my soil in tight with the airpots, as recommended by the grow man. Now I regret it, at seedling stage the holes on the outside will not deliver o2 to the roots in the centre!!!!!!!!!!! Any advice. Have I done the right thing or should I manipulate the soil somewhat. It just aint draining!!!!!!!

I don't think i read so I will ask. What kind of soil are you using, and did you use perlite as well? Pictures are always nice as well ^^

Hi sauce, I did not add perlite and am kicking myself now! Oh well too late. I am using Bio bizz light mix for 3 and plant magic supreme (also a light mix according to grow man). will post some pics................................. just have to dig out my camera!

Stick with the cfl for now and you will get less stretch.I used to use 250w dual spectrum on seedlings and i always got stretch and had to prop them up.I am now using cfls on my 7 day old seedlings with no stretch.
If your medium will nt drain your roots will be starved of oxygen.Adding Hydrogen Peroxide to your water might do the trick but not sure.http://hubpages.com/hub/Hydrogen-Peroxide-for-Plants
Maybe someone with more knowledge on this can help.Otherwise i think trying to loosen your medium up a bit somehow or a transplant.
Good luck MrZ.

Thanks mate, I squeezed the pots around the edges and it seemed to break it up a bit. A couple of other threads suggest that both bio bizz light mix and plant magic supreme are very light therefore you don't necessarily need to add extra perlite. However almost everone does so it must be better. Anyway I will know for next time. The seedlings in plant magic are doing considerably better so far.

Could I add worms to my soil? Organic break up?

I suppose if your seedlings roots can get through it and do ok up to now, they should be fine as they get older and stronger.Good idea bout the worms, forget about the hydrogen peroxide it will kill them.I did see what medium you were
growing in and then forgot when i suggested h2o2 as its not great for organic soil.
Im just starting my 2nd photo grow of 3 Special Kush Royal Queen sseds and 1 cheese bagseed.
I grew autos for 2 years before my 1st photo grow.
