I am going to buy or make something like this ( http://www.supercloset.com/index.php?c=product&m=index&d=20 ) I will have about 2' of grow hight in a 18"x24" space with small pots for dirt or a small hydro setup like you see in the link. My question is do I need to use autoflower dwarfs or will a normal seed adapt to the size of my planed space, I also would like your thoughts on the pros and cons of each choice? Thank you all!:peace:

It's going to be very difficult to grow anything with only 2' of vertical space. Even a dwarf auto is going to get 12 - 18" tall in most cases. By the time you add in another 6-8" for the pot, and space from the plant to your light, you'll be out of room. Depending on what type of lighting you use you will probably need something in the 3-4' range minimum.

Welcome to AFN, cannadave! I don't see a link there, but I've seen some of the small Super Closet setups. I personally have a homemade cabinet with similar dimensions as yours, and I'm about 3 weeks in. My cab is a little over 3' tall and I have a bit more than 2' feet of usable growing space. Neither of my strains are dwarfs, so I've got them in smaller pots (~1.5 gallon) to intentionally stunt them a bit and keep them small. I'm using CFLs that I've kept right on top of the plants, and at 3 weeks my tallest plant is about 8 inches high and bushy. They should have enough room to grow out without having to LST, which was my goal. For my next grow, I'm probably going to go with at least one dwarf strain and larger pots to see what happens. But the bottom line is that going with a smaller space like this will translate to smaller yields, at least until you really get everything dialed in after some grows. That's something I'm willing to accept.

What sort of lights will you be using and what strains are you considering?

Thanks I fixed the link. Well if I go with auto I real like the looks of colossus from 7 dwarfs (http://www.7dwarfseeds.com/products/colossus). If I don't go auto there is a lot out there to like. I have back problems and trouble sleeping so a good indica for sure like Grand daddy purp, Hindu Kush. Anything that will knock me out and help with pain. As far as lights go I feel very comfy with CFL because of the low temps but as I am learning more I am giving HPS some thought. Thanks for the quick reply.

im succesfuly growing 6 plants in 3 square feet with only 10" of head room above the pots.

hydro gives bigger yields for a given root space from what ive read. so i went with that so i could have smaller pots and biiger plants.

there are plenty of hormones out there that will arrest vertical growth. my fast bud#2 just hit 10" so i sprayed it down with 3000ppm of BAP and put some in its water. its slowed down vertical growth.

my last grow, with bap and lst i got 2 plants under 6" tall on purpose because of limited space. as far as im concerned you can grow an autoflower in any amount of space, yields will be effected however.

2' is the grow space for the plant itself there is more space for the pot itself.

If you go with HPS lighting you're also going to need a little more space because of the heat they give off. CFLs may be the better bet for you. 2' of room for the plant itself does give you more options. You could grow just about any dwarf auto in that space and if it started getting a little big, just LST it.

are all autoflowers dwarfs?

I just realized that I might have made an assumption about autoflowers. Are they all dwarf plants? I think most of the ones I have looked at are but could I be wrong?

other than a handful, not gonna say who but i dont see alotta people pulling 1/4lb off these plants, or even a solid 2 whats the reason..i have seen these plants perform better...my only thought it was the types of people that were buying them, with restricted space, but idk

Yep there are some massive autos out there.

Some of the members put their yields in their signatures. Some of the bigger ones i have seen were 34 inches tall and 100 grams dry+.
