I've been growing off and on since the sixties, just kind of dubbing around. Almost all photos, and the last few years primarily outdoors. I've only made one excursion into autos, a succesful LR2 grow 10 or 12 years ago. At the time I had a 250W HPS.

The crop this year wasn't very big so I unlimbered the old tent. The last time I grew indoors was a couple years ago, with a homemade CFL fixture over SCROG. This time I decided to get a little LED, so I picked up a "PopularGrow" light on ebay. It's the same thing as GalaxyHydro, I contacted the company and they confirmed that it's the same thing, just branded differently. And it was cheaper!

Anyway, it seems to work just fine. I'm excited to try growing under this thing.

Here's where my lonely little Kush will be spending her life.

It's about a 5 gallon pot filled with a mixture of Fafard potting mix and Penobscot blend lobster compost.

Since there seems to be a consensus that autos shouldn't be transplanted if it can be avoided, I dug out a little hole in the middle, lined it with a bottomless yogurt cup, and filled the space with seed-starting mix. A clear plastic cup makes a mini-greenhouse to keep the soil surface from drying out.

I planted a single Auto Seeds Candy Kush on Oct. 10, and she poked her little head up 2 days later. She dropped her seed coat OK, but the cotyledons stayed stuck together.

I watched for a couple days and when they didn't separate I gently pried them apart with an X-Acto blade. A day later she was getting pretty happy.

You can see the remnants of whatever was holding up progress still hanging off one of the leaves.

So it's off and running! Fingers crossed that it works out well. I'll be feeding with DynaGro grow and ProTek silicon. It's relatively low N so I'll probably stick with it through the whole grow, unless someone convinces me otherwise or I change my mind.

I'm sometimes not that great at keeping things updated, but I'll try! Wish me well!

I have a Galaxyhydro 300w light in my tent as well, I must say it's doing quite well for me. If you wanted an organic line of nutes I'm using Roots organic Grow ,Bloom and Cal-Mag, and am really happy with the results in fact if you have a pay pal account you can go to their website and for $6 they will send you 3 "free" samples. 2 liquid and one dry but you must specify what you want in line 7 of the order form, if you don't they will just send you 2 liquid sample 1 of grow 1 of bloom. I recommend the Elemental Cal-Mag as the dry supplement as LEDs are prone to bring out Cal-Mag deficiencies in our ladies.

I received my samples 4 days after ordering, and for $6 you cant go wrong, I will in fact be getting their whole line of organic nutes for the next grow. I have two plants going now and the samples they sent should be more than enough to take me to harvest. Hope this helps in some way.
Grow well, be happy!

Thanks Gardenhackle!

NugNubs, great info on the ferts! I'm definitely going to take advantage.

I notice that the light has a fairly small directly-lighted area. I only started one plant so there would be good coverage if she gets bushy - I hope she does! Any feeling for How big an area will be adequately covered? Probably there's a thread that addresses this but I haven't found it. I'm thinking about trying a Hempy bucket alongside the dirt grow.

I'm also going to use some of Full Duplex's suggestions, particularly aerating the water. Same with the compost tea. A friend from another forum sent me some of his tea mix to try. I just found an envelope of MycoMix I got from Fungi Perfecti a few years ago too. I don't know if it's still active but I'll throw a bit of both directly into the soil and as part of the tea. Can't hurt.

I think two small to medium sized plants would be the limit for this light for best results. Be sure you keep it about 18 inches above your plants till they get some size to them, I kept mine to close for a bit and was def seeing signs of stress. I started at about 8 inches and worked up to 18 now that my ladies are a bit older the light is about 14 inches from the tops. I have two Short Riders going. For flowering stages of growth I think 2 feet by 2 feet is about the biggest foot print you want with this light. Any time we can get a living soil we are better off. You can feed the microbes and fungi in the soil with molasses just be sure and get the sulpher free stuff and don't use it every feeding, maybe every third feeding as too much could cause nutrient lock out(it's an osmotic function I believe) . As an added benefit the molasses will supply some iron, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Hope this gives you some more ideas.

It looks like I'll be using the Roots Organic, I sent my order in this afternoon. I got on their site, and one of the ingredients in both the grow and bloom is molasses so that's take care of. It looks like some pretty good stuff, I'm looking forward to trying it.

The 2'x2' sounds about right for the coverage. If I find that the LEDs do a good job I might pick up a second unit. I do miss the old HPS 250 but these run so much cooler that if I can get somewhere near the coverage (my tent's a little under 2'x4') that will do me fine.

So far the lady seems fine with the light at about 10" but I'll keep an eye on her. The second set of true leaves is coming along nicely. It's starting to look like very short internodes. Is this a common trait with autos? There are a lot of pics on here where the plants look very compact, at least in the early stages of growth.

This grow's getting interesting! Lots of new stuff to learn and try, good genetics, paying attention to detail more than usual. I've been a lazy grower the last few years.

It's 12 days from sprouting, and she's getting pretty!

I gave her some ferts for the first time day before yesterday. 1/4 teaspoon each DynaGrow grow and ProTeks to a gallon of H2O then bubbled overnight.

Those big wide leaves are cool. What I've grown up to now have been more sativa-leaning hybrids. These kush leaves are a new experience.

Something I'm wondering about is the cause of these dimples in the leaves. Any thoughts on the cause? I get a bit paranoid sometimes, last year a unknow something or other raised hell with my grow.

It looks normal to me heck she looks in great shape for 12 days old keep up the great work my man

The nodes will separate when she stretches, not sure what those little dimples are but your little girl is looking good to me! Keep up the good work!

I use galaxy hydro led lights they are built tough and produce wicked resin. I also use apollo 6 I have a 4X8 tent. I have a 1200 watt COB produced by Galaxy hydro and 3 300 watt leds from galaxy hydro tough lights that have been running 24 hours a day for months with out a hitch.
