Hi all,

Not a happy first post, but here goes :) I've been growing weed for a few years now, I have tried about every sweet seeds strain there is and I've been a huge fan of almost every one of them. This is my second time growing autoflowers. I prefer photo period ones, but I'm fond of purple strains and thus bought the red family seeds and made an exception to grow auto's. This gave me a chance to grow the cream mandarin as wel, since I really liked the cream caramel and cream 47. But I'm having mixed feelings. The cream mandarin is probably the tastiest strain I've ever smoked. But here's the issue. About 1 out of 3 plants have deformations. I ignored it the first round, but maybe the feedback could help sort this issue out.

This round, 2 did not pop (fast buds, first time in 10 years+ a sweet seed doesn't germinate) and 4 are having issues. They are 2 bloody skunks, a sweet trainwreck and a speed devil. Next to a healthy dark devil and a cream mandarine xl. First round I had the exact same issue with the cream mandarine and the black cream. 3 out of 4 cm's had deformed leaves, the black creams stopped making nodes.
The 8 other plants are doing fine. They haven't gotten nutes yet, just a small amount of water. Lights are cree cobs, 3070's turned on 24/7 but will be turned to 18/6 later this week. So I will have something nice to smoke in a few weeks, but it sucks having to throw away costly seeds. Not the quality I'm used to from sweet seeds and I would have liked your opinion on this.

Cheers,
Beowulf

Are all the seeds that didnt germ/ have deformities from the same packet?
Could just be a case of mishandled/ damaged seed packs from the seed bank you bought from.
Sometimes seeds that have been kept too long in wrong conditions dont germ or can have problems.
Do you keep them in a cool dark place.
Just trying to rule out some basic stugg because sweet seeds have a great reputation and ive grown loads of their stuff with no problems so far

They are kept in a dark cool place yes. Together with the photo's and they are all fine, I even had some left from 2014. No issues there, only with the auto's. Packets were handled ok, not damaged. Last year I ordered them from zamnesia, this year directly from sweet seeds. I think the bloody skunks were from last year. I traded the other two, no idea if the guy planted them yet.
Even with those mutations, I would still buy them. That's how much I like the high and taste. But you know, I'd rather have 4 healthy ones :)

Had deformities too with my black creams when i grew them out,Just got a 7 pack of cream caramels and only had 1 seed survive out of the bunch :nono:

Seeds were pretty green and either couldn't shed the shell properly or ended up with tiny heads and died within 2 days :(

Cheers Beowulf!

Thanks for your feedback and sorry to know that you have been having issues lately.

Do you still have the packages of the seeds? If so, can you share with us the lote number and harvest date printed in the backside of the packages?

Although sometimes deformities may show in some plants, it is usually in early stages of the growth and then they tend to disappear, but to have it in more than one plant and in more than one package is really not usual, as you might well know if you grow Sweet Seeds strains for such a long time.

Since you said that you bought directly from Sweet Seeds, I already know you live in an European country where selling seeds is a legal business, as Sweet Seeds only ship seeds to these countries. Taking that in consideration, despite you answer to my previous question, if you consider sharing a grow diary here in the Sweet Seeds subforum with Sweet Seeds strains, I can arrange to get you free seeds (3 packs of 3+1). With this you could give it one more chance to regain confidence on our genetic collection.

Let me know if you can compromise in sharing a grow diary and we would send you:

3+1 Crystal Candy Auto
3+1 Cream Mandarine Auto
3+1 Sweet Nurse Auto CBD

(you could also change the CBD strain for any other auto from the catalog in the case you're not willing to grow a high CBD strain, although the THC is usually also high in this strain)

Don't give up on the deformed plants. All the best and sweet smokes!

Ok, that's certainly a nice gesture Tommy! I'll finish this as a grow journal and for the moment, I am keeping the deformed ones. Strains don't really matter, I'm growing the crystal candy for the first time (the regular one). The sweet nurse will be new to me and the cream mandarine is just about my favorite strain.
Last year I threw them away after two weeks or so. Picture is from a cream mandarine. 3 out of 4 had those deformed leaves back then. The fourth and fifth were ok, and very tasty. The one thing I remember is that the seeds were kinda large but that could be a coincidence. I'd have to check if I kept the packages. The bloody skunks definately not.

The sweet trainwreck and the speed devil will live on, I'm also a bit curious how they will continue growing... Very weird, never seen this with photodependant ones.

And finally, why I made an exception to grow autoflowers. A black cream bud, the darkest purple I have ever seen. :) Would be nice to see a photo black cream version ;)

Cheers again my friend ;)

Yes, they look strange. Give them a chance to overcome that problem, maybe in 2 weeks or so they will be good and if not you can give up on them by then :D

In the meanwhile send me a PM with your details for delivery. If you prefer photoperiod-dependent strains for your next run, you can choose the 3 strains yourself from the 2016 catalog.

Sweet smokes!
