Hey guys i need some help here, so i germinated my seeds in some rootit! Sponges and now they are in my rainforest hydro system, i have already given it 1/4 strength feed (1st feed) i was wondering hpw often do u feed autos in hydro? I am using General hydroponics fluroa series, should i mix the nutes in the 50L of water in the reservoir and ph there? Or is that wrong? Plants are 2 weeks old now i think, i am waiting on my tds/ec meter, ph is at 5.8-6, thanks in advance this is much more of a fuss than my soil grows

So my plants are getting a little yellow on the edge otherwise they are fine, i had a major water spill from the reservoir and my ph is at 7.3, if feeding weekly i am supposed to feed Saturday, should i feed now or just adjust ph of the water? Water loss was due to damn loose hose on the side of the system all fixed now, also should i leave the vortex sprayer on the whole time? can someone please please help me out with this

pH is high, aim for 5.8-6.2

I find with hydro early on it's pretty easy to simply monitor EC/TDS and maintain for 2 weeks then mix a new batch, each time upping the ratios until they can take no more (watch for the claw)

When the girls get really thirsty your EC/TDS will vary greatly and it takes a bit of a knack to keep it where you want it!

Evaporation plays a big part also so constant monitoring is the key!

I use FloraNova and rarely have pH issues, YMMV.

I am not familiar with the sprayer you refer to but I assume if it is part of the system keep it running.

If things get out of hand dump your res and put a new batch in and take notes!

While at first hydro and dwc can be fiddly when you have it dialed in it can be increadibly easy and productive!

So since i lost almost 20L due to the spill i decided to refeed a couple of days early, i gave 3ml each of gro/bloom/micro since its a 50L reservoir and im feeding at 1/4 strength, i gave it some calmag too and phd to 6.0, dpes this sound reasonable? My logic is that since i lost 20L of solution that was spilled and im using 1000w LED light they should handle it? Did i overkill or should i wait and see what happens tomorrow? I get my tds/ec meter next week so things will be easier I suppose

Hi Masterkush, I have wanted to try that rainforest rig, but I make my own instead. That is properly called fogponics not hydro, but that's a fine point.

The others are right about your pH, should be as close to 5.8 as possible to maximize phosphorous and calcium uptake. I'll post a chart at the bottom. I think that system has a 17 gallon reservoir, that makes it pretty easy to change out water and when you do change water, make sure to turn off the misters until the pH and PPM is set properly. I do not feed anything but water untill they at least have a first set of adult leaves, they usually tell you when they need nutes with a little bit of yellowing. I then add in 200 PPM worth of nutes for a while, if they respond well I up it to 300. I never go over 300 untill at least two weeks of growth. At that point you can start upping the PPM every week till flower happens, and then you are safe to go up to 700 to 1000 usually.

Once you go through a couple grows with that rig, you will find it's less work than soil. It has a learning curve though.

It may be easier to think of feeding as continuous in hydro setups. You change the strength of the feed, but it is always feeding.

Oh ya, I am informaly keeping track of what pH and TDS meters people are using, do you mind letting me know which ones you bought?

The picture didn't come through, but since it's in a case I assume its either blue lab or aperia.

Hey there green genes! Thank u for that helpful reply, my ph and tds meters are just these cheap ones i got off ebay, gotta calibrate them often but so far sp good i suppose, the yellowing got better after the early feed and within 24 hrs those babies grew noticeably, i am starting to love this Rainforest system already, i bought it since a friend recommended it to me from his own experience and it seems like things are gonna run better than soil! There is this Bluelab meters i wanted to get but i though they were a tad too procey tbh, i will keep u guys updates, once i get my TDS meter i can zone in on the numbers but for now i think 1/4 strength is great for those babies, and how often should i check the ph of thw water? im growing Auto jack, super lemon haze and kings Kush, i will keep u guys updated as i go!
