Hydro NFT over a 45gall tank.
1x600 viparspectra + 1 400w HPS on 18/6h
6x auto amnesia
1/2 strength TA Flora TriPart, Ph ~5.5-6

Currently about to hit the end of week 11, they look to have been stretching for 4 weeks solid. The first sign of a pistil was exactly a month ago today.

I made a mistake overfeeding them early which I'm sure stunted them in the first few weeks so I was expecting small and low yields but instead I've got over 1.5m of plant despite some early LST.

I've had to move to side lighting and tieing back the tops away from the lights, there's some leaf damage up high where I've missed tying back but I'm still not seeing an end to their preflower stage.

Anyone had an experience of this?

I don't see preflowering. I see a photo plant that has shown sex. It happens once in a while (much more with poor breeders that didn't carry the project far enough)
If you don't have any autos flowering, flip to 12/12... it'll take a couple weeks to see things start to change. Remain on 12/12 till harvest.

Shes going to double to triple her size in flower... so get a chainsaw ready to hack her back...

I can run 1 photo in 5 gallons and fill a 4x4 without issue, so your gonna have some work ahead.

Any tips on controlling the size? If it triples I'll have to chop holes in the roof and get a cherry picker to reach the tops.

I'd probably hack the hell out of her, till she could just be spread to meet the edges of the tent... pushed down...

Then put a net (simple bungy net) on her. She'll turn up and start stretching, then just keep the canopy clean and remove lower nurfle that won't get good light.

When running a "deck" about 8" is as deep as you can expect for good lighting. Everything below gets cleaned up to help with airflow.

So lopping off just the fan leaves and pushing down the stems/trunks under a net? Should I avoid topping or will it not matter at this point?

Fans, ends that will hit the tent, then I'd probably give it 48 hrs to self correct, you'll probably need to thin the inner growth some too, but it'll be easier to choose what to cut after spreading and letting her recover some. Goal is to keep the top as level as you can, with as many tops as you can, so your lighting is maximized per sq foot.
Many you be able to push down under the net, but am sure you'll have to remove many as well. You'll be surprised at how full a flat plant can produce.

OK I'll get cracking and see what I can do. Thanks a lot for your help and advice.

My 3rd grow and I thought I'd try an auto amnesia as I'm in a bit of a rush, previously I've done photo Michka (takes ages but I'm a sativa kinda person and it was love at first try).

Pruning and training is a learned skill. You have to imagine what the final plant is to look, like and then, make it happen. Running a strain once helps, as they all do their thing a little different. All in all it is a plant, and being photo gene dominant, you could prune her all the way back to a couple branches and shed grow on given the right light cycle.

Have had my own photo moms a couple yrs old, have friends that have photo moms almost 20 yrs old.

When I grew autos in hydro dwc they took a lot longer than soil plants. I wonder if it has something to do with hydro growing. My grows took longer in hydro. But I'm guessing bad genetics. From what breeder did u get your seeds?
