so why am i not seeing 5 gal buckets i know there a reason but just not sure what everyone else knows that i dont

No reason not to. Most guys Indoors use smart pots or air pots but as long as ya got drainage holes yer good to go

I used Tim Hortons coffee shop buckets the muffin mixes came in for my photos. Drilled drainage holes etc and good to go. Used them for years inside and in the garden in the summer. That way I could move them into the garage out of sight if the guy came into the back yard to read the electricity meter or whatever.

I think the hydro guys doing DWC setups tend to use the 5gal buckets more than the soil. Though they almost exclusively will use the black ones to help prevent light bleed into the reservoir.

You are better of to use 1.00 Canadian tire black shopping bags . It is called air pruning as soon as the root hit the air it stopgrowing a creates more roots. You will never have another root swirl again and it will increase yield the Canadian tire shopping bags are more than five gallons too they are made with non woven material almost identical to root pouches I have used them they work fantastic outdoor too.. That being said I use airpots made in Scotland but can be found for sale in Canada but not much difference in yield. I got a great deal at a durham region hydro store just outside of the GTA
