In another recent thread there was mention of alternate light cycles to the traditional 18/6 and 20/4 cycles.

Grovers such as Archie Arthur and 420 forever are using cycle such as 19/5 and 17/7. What advantages are you finding to these lights cycles or is it just as stated in that thread “too lazy to change the timer’

I’m currently working on my first auto flower grow and am using an 18/6 cycle for this grow but looking ahead to my next grow and looking at all of the possibilities

I have used 18-6, 20-4, and 24-0.
They all work, but our plants can only take a maximum amount of energy each day.

The more powerful the lights, the more darkness the plants will need to recover from it.
I've settled on 18-6 after light-stressing with the other schedules.

Weaker lights or much higher light distances than the manufacturers recommend can probably make 20-4 and 24-0 work well.

an autoflower outdoors gets whatever light its given :smokeit: if it aint broke dont fix it
reasons for 24/0....in theory more light is better.but also a theory of a lil rest is good :coffee:if it was wicked cold 24/0
if lecky was fierce price could go 16/8 some have thrown autos into a photoperiod flowering tent at 12/12 and they still grew a plant :smokeit:
ive never tried anything other than 19/5 to compare with so its swings and roundabouts really :footy:
there was an old thread/vote fav light schedule but after searching i be buggered if i can find it:shrug:
good luck n keep er lit
:pighug:

I run my light 19/5 9pm-4pm and i have noticed that my plants do an awful lot of changing during dark period , i wouldn't change unless it was for finacial reasons which would mean only one direction .
But in that case i just dim my QB

Light cycles and why some are longer then others really depends on the strain. A 20/4 cycle make work well for one strain but is not good for another. DLI ultimately dictates your light cycle. If your plant is showing droopy leaves at hour 19, she is telling you she is tired and has already achieved Max DLI. She wants the 18/6 cycle. Watch your plants, they tell you everything you need to know.

Plants uptake nutrients and grow the most at night, pretty amazing

Originally intended to go 18/6. Lights off at noon on at 6 to avoid the energy use during peak hrs. But... some stoner that looks just like me set the timer at 19/5. And I just haven't gotten around to changing it. 5 seems to be about right for now. As we move back into the cooler months, I'll switch back to 24/0.
