Hello everyone, this is my first post here, I hope I’m doing everything right.

Long story short: this is my second grow, I had a spare seed and I decided to try if it was possible to grow an outdoor autoflower during the last stage of summer/first few weeks of autumn.
I’m currently growing a Monster Mash (should be a indica strain) which is at day 56, in a 10L pot using Biobizz Light Mix and Biobizz nutes.

Everything went fine until it started to rain for days last week. In the last 10 days we’ve had 3 or maybe 4 sunny days (which is not very common considering that I’m from south-west Europe) and the bud development seems to have slowed down quite a bit, and the plant has very few trichomes that can only be seen through a scope. And here’s the issue: higher colas seem to be somewhat ready for harvest since most pistils already turned brown and the majority of trichs are cloudy with a few already amber, whereas lower buds are still airy and all of their pistils are still white.

The question is: does the lack of direct sunlight have anything to do with the disappointing amount of trichomes? Also, what should I do considering that according to the forecast it will rain for a whole week? Should I harvest it gradually starting from main cola or wait for buds to eventually fatten up and harvest the whole thing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Lightning definitely has an impact on trich production. And honestly my outdoor never frost like my indoor, same strain, get ya just as high, just not frosty like my indoor.

Staggering the harvest is common when you've got one ripening uneven, just keep an eye on anything left on when it starts raining. Strain dependent, I might cut at the first sign of rain.

heya @Fisker and :welcome: to afn! :toke: me agree with arthur & staggering a harvest is not at all uncommon ;) however, the biggest prob with rainy weather is mold/mildew...is there any way u can bring it inside to let it finish-? next time, try some lst and/or topping, to help keep an even canopy for all the budz to get equal light ;) anything else u need, jus give a holler

ppp & :goodluck:

I’ll definitely consider chopping her if the weather gets much worse, we also have a constant 70%+ RH level which is definitely not good for a plant that late into flowering.
However, to clarify, the plant is on a balcony and doesn’t get much direct rain. Unless we also have a windy day it’s possible she even gets no rain at all. The real issue is the lack of sunlight and high RH but unfortunately there’s not much I can do about it. I’ll keep an eye on her for a couple days and eventually harvest the top colas first on the 31st.

Heyo! Thanks for the nice welcome! :)
I’m definitely bothered by rain and RH and I’ve never experienced mold before (hopefully I won’t experience it this time lol), unfortunately I can’t bring it inside for lack of space/equipment.
I forgot to add that I did some soft LST and the plant is really bushy with a couple colas being taller and closer to the “real” main cola, and it also bothers me to have such a bushy plant with such a high RH because it could definitely increase chances of mold/mildew.
No signs of bud rot/mold so far, I’ll keep and eye on her to see if she can improve a little bit without risking to lose any of my crop.

Here are some pictures.
It rained really hard this morning and she’s still wet, I hope these pics are good enough. As you can see, basically no trichs on “sugar” leaves.

Thanks, I would shake off that water before bud rot and powdery mildew set in. You cant bring inside?

Not ideal.......but thats nature for ya :smokeit:
Still looks to have a ways to go before chop.good thing is it gets a good breeze.
Keep er lit

It’s inside now, however I can’t keep her inside because I lack adequate lighting. She’d just stop growing altogether I think.
And yes, I had to shake her to remove excess water and set a small fan on her to help drying out.

Well, it was an experiment after all. Really unfortunate that this year’s weather was really bad in October compared to last year but that’s how things went. :)

Overall if I have to make a guess I’ll get between 10 and 15g dry which is bad but not too bad considering the conditions she’s been growing in.

Thanks for your helpful responses everyone!

nice lookin girl, and hell, if nuthin else, jus get a clamp-on shop light or two with y-splitterz & good ol' 2700k cfl'z ;) it might slow the growth a wee bit & add a couple weekz to ur harvest window, but she'll keep on keepin on regardless, cuz well, it'z what they do, lol :cool1: ppp
