Tl:dr version: I'm growing plants under shop lights, lst'd to horizontal supports, no additional equipment. Just for the heck of it.

Long version: I consider myself an outdoor grower of fruit, veggies, and now cannabis. As such, I have banks of shop lights set up to grow seedlings. Lights that would normally just sit around until April. Lights that are capable of growing really nice tomato transplants.

So.... I got to thinking, if I train a couple plants horizontally directly under the lights, maybe they can grow some decent bud too.

Meet the newest and best yet iteration of Germination Station:

Those smart pots on the top? Each of those contains a mixture of coco coir, soil, sand, and worm castings. The mix has been amended with dolomitic lime, bone meal, canola meal, kelp meal, and myccorizal cultures. And of course, a single bean in each.

I expect to need to top dress with additional ferts and mix up some teas as well.

The mid shelf is tomato and pepper plants I am torturing all winter to hopefully use as mother plants in the spring.

Here we go.

May as well use those extra lights, good luck hope all goes well, will keep watching.

Well, seeds popped. I'm calling today day 4. One is staying quite squat, the other quite lanky. So, the girls have acquired names already. Stumpy and Lanky will be much more fun than plants 1 and 2.

Lanky fell over due some heavy handed watering. Her roots stayed in the soil, so if anything it might toughen her up a bit.

Smooth sailing so far.

No pictures yet. You guys know what seedlings look like.

I have found a method for the espalier! Hurray!
Woodworking clamps, garden stakes and zip ties.
Check out the proof of concept, it is surprisingly rigid.

Day 81: The espalier didn't go exactly to plan, but that is okay. The training kept the plants as compact canopies, so yay!
They are really starting to pack on some serious bud now. The more indica dominate phenotype is starting to yellow, so we are getting towards the finish line

I wish I had known how small the plants would stay. I would have popped 2 more beans!

In case anyone is curious, these plants only get 15 hours of light a day, and I haven't fed them once.

Nothing but the original soil mix and water for these girls.
