Im wondering if it would really be a disaster to put 2 auto's in a 5 gallon container..one on either side? I germinated 4 seeds, but it seems there is no soil available in my city at this time of year, so much for trusting 'online inventories' lol. So I either throw away 2 of them, or put them in the same container as the two I already planted.

It's not the best situation to put two in the same pot but it can be done. You might have to thin out some foliage later on to give the buds better access to your lights but it should be ok.

You think it would be better if I put a 'divider' in the middle of the pot? So the roots don't grow into each other? Im only using cfl's, so the plant likely wouldn't be big anyway..maybe 1 oz max on each if alone in a 4 gallon.

To me that sounds like the right thing to put a divider in the middle of the pot

yes it's bad, I tried it once, never again. They may grow at very different rates so then no plant is sitting pretty, roots compete I believe, no proof. One may need more nutrients than the other then what? No, it's just an all around bad deal although I see scrog growers do it, but not in a 5 gal.

Two in the same pot would make sense only if you would pick out the weaker phenotype after a week or so. If you have seeds to throw around like that then it would be a good way to better the changes of getting a good pheno.

Why not get two 2 gallon pots and plant them separately instead of 1 5 gallon?

because I figured 2 gallons maybe too small..and I wasn't sure if roots interacting with each other in a bigger container would be an issue. I put the seed in a small planter for now with the soil I have left and will transplant into a 4 gallon by itself in coco/perlite on Monday. The seed I planted in one of them 2 nights ago has sprouted..the other one in the other container didn't, so I was going to take it out as it never germinated properly and put in one of the two I had waiting to plant, I did that but never found the seed I planted originally..so we'll see what happens..what a mess lol:) I know the first to pop out will be the one I put in tonight as the tap root was very long, the other one i'll transplant if it ever finds its way.

These were the roots on the two auto's from last grow in the same 4 gallon containers by themselves..its why I thought 2 gallons will be too small.

So the one I put in the container, with the 'lost' seed, popped out this morning...I checked again a few hours later..and the other one I deemed gone came out less than an inch away lol. Seemed it went deeper as the tap root was already about 4 inches long (When I put it in the taproot wasn't out and I just dropped it in the hole..maybe it grew downwards while it re-oriented itself). So will be hunting for soil tmr. I can get a cheap store brand one..made of 'sifted compost' ,but I wanted something better. I took it out carefully and planted it in some soil/coco I have left. They'll go to their final home tmr:)
