BioHarvest has reported claimed commercial scale production of cannabis biomass with up to 200x more trichomes vs. natural plants. See https://www.proactiveinvestors.com/companies/news/968614/. This involves proprietary cell culture technology, with no genetic modification involved, with bioreactor design apparently the breakthrough.

I am so ready for such technology to become available to home growers (but admit I haven't yet had time to look into this more, e.g., how much THC is made vs. plants).

And in steps big Tobacco / Canna.

Good read, but I think I'll stick to growing the plant.

I mean Cannabis Biomass, just look at it. I can't say it has me salivating like a good bud or extract does.

I don't see any trichomes... Also, methinks the report of 200 times the number of trichomes might be incorrect. That sounds unlikely given that bud can be up to 30+% cannabinoids after drying. Where exactly would one fit 200 as many trichomes in that? At 3 times the tricome volume, much less 200 times, the tissue would be nearly 100% cannabinoids. Something does not add up to this stoner brain, not that that is unusual.

Looking through the report, methinks that what the actual research found might have been 200x the number of trichome cells, not trichomes. That might fit with reality, but who knows without seeing the actual research. Further, not all trichome cells produce cannabinoids, so the extra cells may not accomplish anything remotely like that increase in cannabinoids.

I suspect that the company's primary motivation here is the ability to produce extractable tissue high in cannabinoids while using far less labor and space to produce the final extracted product when compared with growing plants. It sounds like the "bioreactor" used to produce this will require next to no labor at all, likely just some dude or dudette sitting at a computer station to monitor and control whatever is needed. It will be interesting to see where this technology goes, but I doubt that it is going to replace high quality bud.

I think I will continue with growing the plants. They are a hell of a lot prettier than that stuff, and I do not really need more cannabinoids than I already harvest thanks.

I've heard of kidney stones... Tonsil stones, not so much. Stoner memory perhaps. :pighug:

They're the chunks of congealed sinus drainage, bacteria, and food particulate that get caught in your tonsil cavity, behind your tonsils. They're hard but mushy and if you squish them they smell like rotting death. If you've ever been sick and coughed up a hard little white/yellow ball, that's a tonsil stone. Before I realized I had chronic allergies last year, which is why I seemingly always had sinus infections, I used to get them all the time. You can feel them when they get big enough, and by the time they're that big they are usually stuck, so you gotta pop them out with your finger or a qtip or whatever and hope to God that your overactive gag reflex doesn't make you hurl lmfao.

Well there ya go, I learned something. Disgusting does not quite cover it. Makes kidney stones sound positively sanitary.

Good thing I had my tonsils removed, perhaps. I can still remember the ice cream bribe. Naturally, this was about seven decades ago when the medical fraternity did that to tonsils, and when I was young enough to be bribed with ice cream. Things have changed on both counts.

Oh I'd take them over kidney stones any day, lol. The one I had was L shaped and I was absolutely miserable for weeks. Haven't had another issue with the tonsil stones since I started daily allergy meds, so at least there's that lol.

I am glad that you got it sorted. Those things sound seriously annoying even if not as painful as kidney stones. I am quite glad to have missed both experiences, so far on the latter. :pighug:

I hereby 'boo' this news :finger: (nothing personal @BII lol) it will take more than that to stop home growers doing their favourite hobby :smokeit:
