Welcome frankrizzo to AFN! Really gotta a lot of study ahead of ya but that's what this site & these fine people are here to help ya w/. Glad you picked AFN, we are the only autoflower site(that I know of) on the web.

Watering a newbies most common mistake. The best way I can explan is water by weight. When you put soil in your pots get a feel of the weight, set it down & pick it up to get a feel of dry weight. Now the 1st time you water you wiill also get a feel for that weight. When dry your plant will be lite, not so lite, not so thirsty. Happy learning frankrizzo!

Welcome FR! I agree with SBH. Depends on your conditions and such. Definitely feel the soil. Stick your finger in a safe place a little ways down and feel if it's moist. Be careful not to disturb the roots. Also, when you do water do what SBH said... Lift it up and feel it wet. You will see a tremendous difference when it's dry. Depends on your grow environment too. For example mine stays around 91 degrees and relatively dry (less than 50% humidity). However, I have good air circulation (which is VERY important!). So I can run temps a little higher than most like to or recommend. I run a 400W HPS. So, my soil dries fairly quick. I water every 3-4 days. I'm careful not to over water. A very big newbie mistake. I know! I made that mistake in my first photo grow! Best of luck to you man! You'll find and receive all the help you need here!

Welcome frankrizzo! I highly recommend you read FullDuplex's guide for lots of great auto growing info: http://www.autoflower.org/f5/fds-guide-growing-hefty-autos-small-places-206.html

I echo what the other guys have said about watering. If you're not sure that they need water, let it go for another day. You won't kill your plants if they get a little dry, but you can definitely hurt them bad with overwatering. At best they'll be stunted, and at worst you'll rot the roots and they'll be done for. A couple other tips are to go with a light soil that has plenty of perlite mixed in for quick drainage. You can also use an aquarium pump to oxygenate your water, which will reduce the chances of drowning the roots if you overdue it with watering. Good luck & looking forward to seeing your grow!

Here's what I learned @Frank Rizzo .

My first Auto grow I was not here on AFN yet. Freind guided me who had grown autos about 6 - 7 years before. His advice don't over water and don't touch or mess with it too much.

I was growing in a 5 gal pot with my own soil mix. My plant roots only filled 1/3 of the pot and did not reach the bottom. It was a nice plant but I only got 1 1/2 ounces. Way low for the strain. It never looked bad with such a small amount of water I was giving her.
