I've been harvesting raw Opium from my grandmothers Pepperbox P.S. and I have to say, If I'm not careful its easy to take to much when smoking...

Also the raw Opium from the Pepperbox poppy is pretty easy on the lungs without purifying it...

No problem! Just keep posting as things come up and I'll let you know how I would approach the issue if you want another opinion, there is so much info it would be pointless to try and put it all down in the beginning, so good luck and be scientific about it and you should have no problems. The first time I tried growing poppies I got a mix of all the seed I was going to use and spread them around many sites to see what worked on it's own and also started some inside because, I too, feared that I was too late in planting... Having this many different spaces really gave me an idea as to what worked with the strains I had and still had almost half my seeds left after planting so don't worry about using too many seeds outside if you do get a chance to try it in the weather... Hope the outside method can be tried by you! just remember to sow twice, once in the fall heavily and one light reseeding before the snow melts completely. this will guarantee a heavy harvest. Forgot a note about the fridge idea, never tried it myself but i would carefully monitor the seeds for mold as the fridge has millions of spores in it already. But it also might be the best idea since sliced bread! Let me know how it works for you if you end up going that route!

I think I'll try it with a small amount of seeds... Maybe covering it would actually be a good idea in the fridge if there is already tons of bad spores in there it couldn't hurt could it?

Well spores tend to get anywhere (and usually are already there, think about the canning process, or growing mushrooms indoors as compared to outdoors) that isn't completely airtight including on your fingers when you are "making something airtight") and something that is airtight once contaminated grows out of control (like a culture in agar). I'm not saying to not try, or to not be worried about a sterile environment but they might have just as much chance, if not more, uncovered so the cooling grill of the evaporator in your refrigerator can dehumidify the air while the it circulates within the refrigerator.

It's all just a thought, maybe i've done one too many science class cultures and have seen how dirty everything is up close, but I'd err on the side of caution. I'm sure you will with the small batch approach! Good luck and let me know how it works out!

So I just went out back and found 2 poppy plants that have pods forming now, guessing they're going to be big considering the sowing time... I'll Take some pics right after they emerge from the leaves...

I grow poppies to make opium. I grow indoors & outdoors. I use the whole plant to make my tar, I've also found I would rather ingest it insted of smokeing it. It is a delicate flower to grow.
