Preface: I believe this is only the second documented journal for this strain: the Space Pope did an excellent first grow and journal. I'm hoping that his excellent journal and my efforts on this one will give all members a very good starting point for your own grow of WTR. His journal is here:

This is my third grow. I selected Wild Thai Ryder because it is a sativa and for nostalgia reasons. As posted previously on another thread , I was a Peace Corps volunteer in the jungles of Thailand in the 1970's and enjoyed Thai canna immensely.
I like to set objectives for my grows. For my last grow, my objective was all about maximizing yield through aggressive feeding. This was not a very enjoyable grow between root tip burn, salt-build-up, toxicity, etc. You name it and I probably experienced it. I did learn a lot...
In spite of these difficulties, the two plant yield (Ministry of Cannabis White Widow in soil, 220w of cfl twisties) was 156 grams (5.5 zips) in a 3 square foot converted wine cooler. This forum is not as big on growing metrics as other forums (generally PP emphasis) but in any case the metrics on this grow was 52 grams per sq foot and .71 gram per watt.
This grow is NOT, NOT, NOT about maximizing yield. I want to focus on the process of growing and not on the anticipated outcome. I guess you might call this a Zen-like or mindfulness approach to growing. I want to have a smooooooth grow w/o the drama. In particular, I do a shitty job on veg to flower transition so I'm looking to improve this. I believe that this approach, i.e., developing a harmonious rhythm with the plant(s) and in particular managing the plant's transitions to minimize stress (for the grower, too) , could rival a grow using higher dosages of nutes and the possible/likely associated problems that require the plant to use energy to recover from.
Okay, here is what the plant looks like at Day 29:
Here are the specifics of the grow's set-up.
Strain:
World of Seeds Wild Thai Ryder - Single plant (glad I didn't try to do two 3 gallons!)
Pot/Soil:
5 gallon pot.25% Perlite, equal measure of Fox Farms OF and HF.
Soil was prepared, pot filled, pH-ed watered, and runoff was pH measured. Soil pH was 5.2!!!! This was not expected. As seeds were already floating, I added 6.5 Tablespoons of pulverized garden lime and scratched it in to the top 2-3" of the soil. In the center of the pot, a 3" deep by 2" hole in the planting mixture was made and the depression filled with straight (and gentler) HF.
Germination: Floated in water and, upon sinking, removed and planted about 3/8" deep in the HF center of the pot . Sprayed with pHed water, and continued spraying 3-4x daily the center area of the pot until seedling broke through soil.
Grow Space:
Converted wine cabinet measuring 21" by 21" by 38" or 9.7 cubic feet not including lighting. This chamber is split into two sub-chambers, the lower one being the grow camber. The lower chamber is air tight relative to the upper chamber with the exception of 4 two inch holes to provide exhaust from the grow chamber below (directed air flow cools...think of a ventilated hood, sort of). This design (I think) keeps a higher percentage of all light closer to the plants. The thought here was that this design would yield shorter, bushier plants. It seems to have worked on two previous grows; we'll see on this one.
On Day 29, the chamber is 23" inches high or 5.9 cubic feet, illuminated by 230w of CFL twisties -- a fair amount of light in a small space, me thinks. As plant(s) grow the lower chamber of course becomes larger and the wattage can be increased.
Passive intakes are two 4.25" diameter holes in bottom chamber.
Vortex 6" fan and Phresh filter and muffler (in cabinet.)
The cabinet is still in its experimental stage and the basic concept can be improved upon.
Lighting:
CFL only, 8 sockets in two clusters of 4. I'm currently running 230w but this will be increased for flowering. Mixed 6500k and 2700k, 80%/20%. Lighting on/off is 19/5 but this is for temperature management reasons. (In the summer months, with my grow cabinet in a whole house AC environment, I can better manage grow temperatures by turning the lights off DURING THE NIGHTTIME. Please ask if you want to know why this is so because it sounds counter-intuitive. )
Nutes
Fox Farm Trio, Cal-mag Plus, molasses.
Nutes (Grow Big and Big Bloom) were begun at 1/4 strength on Day 19. As I have limed the soil, on this grow I will be using less Cal-mag Plus as the Soil Doctor's pulverized lime has both.
Training:
As you might be able to tell from the pictures, I have started LST (pipe cleaners.) I am a HUGE believer in the benefits of LST particularly for plant/light/canopy management. I am less certain that LST for auxin (IAA) management is all that beneficial for yield improvement although this is probably a divergent opinion here.
Curing:
Will use Boveda packs as before (BTW, great product)
Well, those are the basics... ON WITH THE GROW!
