Ca deficiency?

Yeah, I should change the res, I kinda wanted to give the Hydro guard a chance to colonize the roots and not disturb them, but something was/is up. Seems to have resolved, at least not getting any worse. Definitely going to leave out the calmag, there was only a little bit of coco and now that the roots are in the water, I don't see how the coco could steal the calcium going forward. A bit annoying that this whole problem was likely caused by my failure to shake up the calmag before using, but you can be sure I won't forget again..
As an aside, does this loss of chlorophyll look as if it resulted from too much light? They’re ok now, but I really can’t imagine what else would have caused this.

That is a magnesium problem not light burn. Probably caused by the same out of balance condition that locked up the calcium.

Thanks! Gonna change res monday. Follow the directions very carefully, just gh Flora, Hydro guard and superthrive. No calmag, ph 5.9 ,tds ~700. It's a bit annoying that these problems are only affecting a few plants , I picked a mono crop since they're all connected and get identical conditions. But of course, seedlings aren't clones. And of course changing multiple things at once adds to the complexity of diagnosing. But so far AFN has been really great and provided me with lots of info. I'm still skeptical that these will finish flowering in in less than 6 weeks and be decent, but I can't wait to be converted.

Off the top of my head I do not remember what I don't like about Superthrive but I never use it.

edit: Just remembered it has PGRs and I don't want that in my meds. A personal choice.

Yeah, there’s a lot of controversy over it since they refuse th release the formula. I’m not worried about plant growth regulators personally. I’m not a plant, and I highly doubt they’d be present in the smoke at any appreciable concentration. To each their own, but as a scientist I love unnatural stuff, nature can be vastly improved upon. I doubt there’s anything in superthrive that isn’t already produced naturally in the plant. I view it like multivitamins for people. Probably unnecessary, but probably harmless.

That is not the only reason to be wary of PGRs. They promote dense buds which at first sounds great. Who does not want dense buds? Me! Big Fat Dense Buds are susceptible to bud rot. It is horrifying to grow beautiful buds to have them rot before your eyes.

I have also learned to control my spectrum in flower to promote a more open bud structure.

I agree with you there, I prefer nice fluffy buds with lots of surface are to cover in trichomes. luckily I have very low background humidity, and I defoliate heavily (maybe not these as they’re autos) and have great airflow so I haven’t had any issues with bud rot, but I don’t really value density in my buds. Within reason. Superthrive likely has a number of effects. Probably has auxins, gibberelins and all kinds of stuff. I’m sure it would be fine without it, really just habit at this point. Certainly would consider cutting it out the last two weeks. Probably wouldn’t make much difference either way.
I’m curious about the spectrum adjustments, I’ve been hearing a lot about the benefits of far red. I’ve been watching all the Bruce Bugbee videos. It’s really amazing the things science has been able to learn since the advent of good leds. The stuff I learned in school 22 years ago is laughably outdated (as far as spectrum).

I run blue pucks in veg to keep plants low and bushy, then I turn off the blue and do far red for 15 minutes at lights out when the plants start to flower. I run these for 7 - 10 days. then the UVA lamps with 10,000K run with the main lights. My GrowCraft lamps are red heavy so I have not needed more red. Then the last 2-3 weeks I run UVB.

I hate to interrupt guys but this PGR thing has me really interested now. i hope i'm not trying to steal or bothering by asking questions. is kelp a PGR? if so why is it not bad? i just need a leg to stand on in a agruement with a friend. i know it can't be too bad @Mañ'O'Green uses it and i trust him.

I don’t know enough to start mucking about with spectrum at this point, but I’m always willing to learn. Interesting stuff for sure. What with photosystem II and the Emerson effect and especially the effects on plant morphology. I’m pretty skeptical of the benefits of UV personally, but of course I have nothing to back that up. It may add something, but they certainly do fine and produce top notch bud without it. Not saying it can’t help, just very low on the list on things I could improve.
